Every plant looks fresh and happy in the early morning
and everything has blooms..........
but by mid afternoon
every plant looks wilted and tired.
The heat has been up to the 100s on some days........
yet, every thing seems to survive it all
I have even been able to enjoy a plate or two of fried green
tomatoes from my tomato vine! No one else in my family cares for fried green tomatoes...........for me there is nothing better......
don't you agree?
My little group of tiny chickens......seem to not mind the heat as much.
They have plenty water and shade..........
yet, I am still surprised at how they enjoy running and chasing after bugs and such
when the days are so hot and muggy.
So when the heat is just too unbearable, I spend my time with my needle.
I finally finished a luncheon cloth and napkin set that I have been working on for months.
I designed it to match some of my vintage dishware in my shop.
You can see more photos and read about this on my embroidery blog at this link
I also went through some old recipes and decided to make a 30 Day Friendship
Fruitcake..........yes, it does take 30 days...........but so worth the effort!
To get the recipe and to read the story about this cake you can visit my cooking blog at this link
So how is the temperature in your back yard? Are you growing a garden or creating something with your hands? I would love to hear!

You must have to do a lot of watering if your temperatures are so high!!
I've never tried fried green tomatoes... I did watch the movie though and enjoyed it.
I've tried coating and frying almost ripe tomatoes but found that the coating wouldn't stick. They tasted great any way.
Your chickens are so pretty! Easter eggers? That embroidery work is amazing. -Jenn
Beautiful blog post, as usual! I love everything about it. And yes, I do enjoy fried green tomatoes! We are having a lot of rain here and enjoying the respite from the heat. Figs are ripening and delicious.
Oh I like the table cloth and napkins. VERY NICE!
We don't usually get those very hot temperatures here in western Maryland. It barely makes it to 80. The last few days it has been in the 70's with a nice breeze.
Cute chicks. I miss having them. Hot here too in Michigan. Janice
Love the pictures of the garden, they look so healthy and vibrant. Something so fragile, and the heat. We've been hot here upper 80's and very humid. Your embroidery work is so lovely, and it goes perfectly with your pretty dishes. Green fried. oh so good. :) Love the little yardbirds, what kind are they? What color eggs do they lay.? Fruitcake? going to give that a look see. I like fruit cake.
Summer flowers can be so pretty! One wonders how they can stand the terrible heat. I don't think I've ever eaten fried green tomatoes; rather have sliced red ones. ;)
Your garden is beautiful. I love the photos. The fried green tomatoes and fruit cake look so delicious. I also like the chicks. Yes, it's hot here, too. Good idea to work in the garden early of the morning before it gets too hot.
When we lived in VA and grew tomatoes, we did make fried green tomatoes, and found that neither of liked them. Maybe we didn’t have the right recipešas yours do look better, Kathleen. Glad you are reserving the outdoor work to cooler times as we also did when we had garden and yard chores to do. The embroidery work you have done is so beautiful and what a great match to the dishware! Glad the chickens enjoy the temps and look so well.
It's been close to l00 here the past couple of weeks. Not the kind of weather I enjoy working out in the yard!
Your handwork is so beautiful! And, fried green tomatoes? I had forgotten, and now I want some. Thanks for the picture, looks so good!
xoxo
I enjoyed seeing your photos. It has been hot here as well, but not as hot as you have had it there. I've never had fried green tomatoes. Your embroidery is so beautiful. I love the flowers on the cloth and napkins. You did an amazing job of matching them to your dishes.
What beautiful embroidery work! The gardens here have had an abundance of rain so far this year, but little crawling critters have been in abundance too! However, now that July is here, the weather has turned hot and dry, so the watering has begun. I am always in awe of all the beautiful flowers in your gardens... despite the heat.
Fried green tomatoes sound good right now, maybe with some fried fish or pulled pork sandwich. I like fried zucchini also.
