Blooming and Sprouting

Cooking at the little diner has been a wonderful experience. It's exhausting work and I find myself extremely tired by the time the sun sets in the sky. Even though I have a good bit of day time left to my day............it is hard to get everything accomplished...........like gardening and embroidering and blogging. I have designated different days for the flower gardens, the vegetable gardens and the greenhouse. I have done the same with my on-line Etsy shop for my embroidery.I am trying to keep up with my blogs at least once a week and hope to stop by and say hi to all of you who visit. Since becoming acquainted with Hometown Seed Company, I have been planting the seeds they have sent to me.
I have already planted the early spring seeds, such as radishes, carrots, beets, cabbage, Swiss chard, romaine lettuce, spinach, and Lincoln peas (pictured above.) To my delight, they have all sprouted and are growing well. I also have onions(planted last fall) that are being harvested now and I planted the greenhouse tomato plant out into the garden. It is covered in green tomatoes.
Out on the prairie grounds the wildflowers are all springing up and showing off their brilliant colors. I can smell their fragrance in the wind.

The Blue Bonnets I planted last fall, have also made their appearance. I hope by now that all of you, from all of your little corners of the world are seeing spring like weather? Or are some of you still experiencing snow? Have you started your gardens? I would love to hear.

You are so busy Kathleen. I know you are very tired. Your veggies are looking good. We are not planting a garden this year, but we are enjoying perennials coming back now that the weather is so nice. Just this week, everything is turning green and beautiful.

Hi Kathleen - glad your seeds are coming up. I haven't planted any yet. I already had my seeds & seedlings for this year. I thought I might keep the Hometown ones in the fridge and put em out next year or if there's something I can plant in the late summer or fall. You ever had a fall garden? I haven't yet, but I'd like to try it. I've been so tired of the heat at the end of summer, I wasn't in the mood.

I wanna see some of your flowers you always have - zinnias? Did I remember correctly? They were so beautiful. I've been trying to put out perenials every year so I won't have so much to do the next year. I have a flat of zinnias I'm trying to find a spot for...

We are in and out of warm weather up here, yesterday was a great day, I did manage to get my beds ready for those cold weather crops. If the wind dies down a bit I may even brave the cold to plant a few things.

Your gardens are looking promising, and the flowers are heavenly, bet they smell so pretty...

Hope, you find some resting time in between your hectic schedules.

Blessings,
Mel

Spring keeps teasing us up here in the Pacific Northwest. One day will be beautiful, sunny skies and the next may be hailing, windy, and rainy.
Yesterday was a weird mixture of both!

So, I have my little "greenhouse" project going on inside still. In front of the sliding glass door, to soak up the sunshine when it appears, are my broccoli, lettuce, chives, and basil seedlings. I also have a bunch of strawberry starts there too.
Then on my kitchen counter is my herb garden. Sage, Rosemary, thyme, oregano, peppermint.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate soon for planting. But I have to wait and see what it does!

Things here in San Diego have been blooming since February. I laughed when they stated spring would be late. Guess that didn't include San Diego.

Last week driving on the freeway I was surprised with all the wildflowers blooming. Yellow daisies, California Poppies and Lupine. What a sight, thanks to all the rain we had in January.

I do look forward to the day we are out of here and somewhere quieter and dirt that I can get my hands dirty with.

Love seeing your plants popping up, always a good feeling.

Blessings,
Jilly

Your garden looks great! I'm so envious - I haven't planted anything yet, but I did buy some heirloom tomato plants, snapdragons and sweet basil today-If tomorrow is as sunny and wonderful as today was, I may plant them after church.

Oh the fragrance of the wild flowers sounds delightful. Our spring bulbs have such a memorable fragrance that even though spring has never been my favorite season the fragrance sends me to all the incredible times that have added up to an abundant lifetime. I have really been enjoying and taking advantage of our very early spring and in a way am glad that now our weather is acting a little more spring like rather than summer like! Have an incredible Sunday today and a very good week.

It is encouraging to see things growing. I do have some snap peas that have sprouted. My tomatoes that I planted on the porch were destroyed by the squirrels so I will just have to buy plants. Now don't be working too hard.

Hello Kathleen, Those veggies will give you plenty of energy Kathleen, there is nothing like preparing the ground and watching something grow. I love the little Blue Bonnet flower. I went to a garden show yesterday and got a Yates bag full of wonderful produce including 6 packets of seeds including some old fashioned sweet peas. Hopefully I will have some luck with them. Happy days.

It can be hard to fit things in when you work. I was usually too tired to do much after I got home. Glad your garden is starting out well! We've planted most of ours!

You never cease to amaze me. I wish life didn't deal us choices that have to be made. I wish for you - all the time you need to tend to your sewing, gardening, farming and blogging. You are a joy - but take care of yourself. There is only one of you, you know?
