The Texas dirt was blinding as the wind ripped and roared

across the prairie yesterday.
And if you ever wondered what I look like.............well, this is pretty close after yesterday.
My husband's truck broke down a little ways down the road from our home as he was heading to work yesterday morning. He had to leave it behind and go on to work. Yesterday afternoon, the dirt storm was in full swing, when he and I had to go down to drag this truck home.
I do not like to pull vehicles, and I do not like to be pulled in a vehicle. Both are very stressful to me, especially when I am blinded by a dirt storm.
Dirt stung our faces, tumbleweeds came at us like a wild stampede, scaring Sophie, who found a safe retreat inside of the truck. Not only did my hair look like it does in the photo, but my expression was a close match.
There are feathers of different colors of white, red, and speckled black, stuck in the tumbleweed lined woods that blew off of my poor chickens. I think I have enough to make a pillow! But never fear, my hair will be smooth  and I will smile again, with no dirt in my teeth......
This is life on a west Texas prairie.
How about you?
Are you hanging on to your hair, dress, or hat as you struggle with dirt or snow blowing?
I would love to hear!

Oh my goodness! That picture! Perfect! It is blowing hard here this morning in Kansas, too! Hard enough that the chickens wanted to stay in, and I obliged them. Glad you got the truck home.

Wonderful picture! I never imagined you looking like that! lol I always wear a scarf and my hair looks plastered against my head. We're having the strong winds today and it makes a roaring noise as it whips through the pines.

Sometimes when I have to pull the farmer, I can't keep from jerking the tractor and at times the chain has broken; then he wasn't too happy with me.

That's a hoot! It's blowing a gale and spitting snow this morning, but I didn't have to get out today. Love that photo!!

At least you got lift! *smiles* (Love the old pic.)
We are having hefty gusts here in the foothills ourselves. I thought someone had knocked on the door earlier, but it was my fake trees falling over on the porch. We have the possibility of a little snow Friday night, but we won't hold our breath on that one. That forecast rarely pans out for us. Mostly snows only in the higher elevations. We would love a nice snow though. The sled is ready just in case. ;)

Did you husband have to push the truck? O that is a tough job.
An incredible photo and I wonder what the story behind it is.
Still and clear here now, but a three day storm is on its way with lots of rain. And what felt like a earthquake this morning!

*HAHA* This picture looks just like Mrs. Tweedy in Chicken Run!
I KNOW your hair surely didn't look that frightful, Kathleen! :)
And I think we are getting those same winds... I've been chasing stuff around the yard all day long... *sigh*

Hi Kathleen - some of your dirt blew this way, too, even through east Texas. It rained a bit and everything is covered with sand and red dirt. And we don't even have red dirt here where we live! That wind was terrible!

Glad you got your truck home - now for the clean-up! Guess we're going to have a "Red" Christmas!

Dust from Texas, Oklahoma or Kansas blew into Arkansas and got mixed in with rain which ended up falling as muddy rain. Sure sounds a little like Dust Bowl days to me.

Such a wonderful sense of humor! I love it! My hair looked just like that yesterday, too--winds from the north and COLD at 50 mph. I can't imagine dirt in with it, too! Love that photo.
Christmas Hugs,

When we moved to Lubbock when our daughter was quite small, we found out about Texas winds! :-) My friend and I invented the "Lubbock look" hairstyle, and your picture wasn't too far off! I also loved the dirt that would blow in through cracks you couldn't even see and coat everything in the house. Ah, the memories...:-)
