The first dusting of snow for the season

came to us in the early morning hours, mixed in with the high winds blowing across the prairie.

It looks like someone took a gigantic sifter and sifted powdered sugar over my wooded garden.
When I wake to mornings such as this, it can only mean one thing............
before the chickens get let out and fed............
before the coffee maker gets filled...........
before any important stitching get done............
I grab my camera and Sophie and I head out for a long winter's walk.
She was so busy running here and there and sniffing out every visitor, that I did not catch too many good shots of her.

Gertrude stands alert and strong.............although her sweater has snow over the shoulders,
guarding the garden.............which now needs to be completely cleared.

We did not get enough to measure................
not even a shovel full..............

but if you were a little bird.........with small matchstick legs.............
it might be pretty deep!

I am actually surprised we got snow.............and this early..............
how about you?
Are you already under a deep blanket of snow?
Perhaps you have already made a snowman or two?
I would love to heat!

Love the snow! I'm trying not to turn pea-green with envy. *grins* Here in the foothills of the Smokies we have not had so much as a dusting. We need a good cold snap and some precipitation!
Gertrude is still adorable.

It is so beautiful, Kathleen~ even if it is just a dusting. It's more than I've seen around here in a while.
I had to chuckle at what you said about it being deep for a birdie! :)

Icing sugar sprinkling of snow!! A winter wonderland, the little birds must wonder what has happened, or maybe they know nature will drop this, each year ,at some time. Cheers from Jean

Really nice snow shots. We got the same amount here - but frigid cold with it.

Just enough snow to be pretty without the mess. We had slight flurries this morning.

Poor, poor Gertrude! She needs a tobaggon.

It was awfully grey here today, but no snow. We've only had a few flurries but nothing measurable so far.

YIPPEE for you. Nothing here. Although I felt a tiny sprinkle as I was moving about doing chores. But that was all and it was very cold!

We have not had a flake of snow yet here in Michigan near Detroit. How did those green tomatoes fare? Pretty photos.

Your first dusting looks so pretty and Gertrude is standing strong.
Ours was not as much and melted fast. I really would love to see a bit more for Christmas, but we may have to just wish. LOL
Thank you for sharing your pics.
Hugs, Celestina Marie

Hi Kathleen - no ma'am, we did not get the snow. It's a rare thing for east Texas. Seems like these Texas clouds fizzle before they get over this way. It is pretty tho at your place!

Oh, this is awesome getting snow. The first snow is always so exciting. I love the photos and sounds like you had a wonderful time taking the photos.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

We on the VA eastern shore have only rain showers the past couple of days, Kathleen. Thanks for sharing your dusting. When we finally relocate to NH (only after our home sells) we are looking forward to snownatbthe holidays.

It DOES look like powdered sugar! :-) Oh, the chickens are precious scratching around the yard! Free Range is the way to go! Happier, healthier chickens and eggs! But, I always thought I would have to have a chicken wire covered area for them to roam in, if I had chickens, because of the hawks. Do you ever lose one?

By the way, I love that last photo!
