I love walking the grounds in the early morning hours

and I love the way the garden and the woods, all around, lie in still quietness

It doesn't take long before the west Texas sun awakens the wildflowers that make a natural fence around the garden. If only I could arise so bright and cheery.............

This year I am "experimenting" with Brussels sprouts...........something I have never grown before.......and just a few months ago, found a great recipe that makes them taste delicious...............so I was hooked on them!
They are growing tall and thick, although the Texas heat has been in the 100's. I am hoping that they keep staying healthy and that by the time late fall comes, they might start producing.

And as most of you know.............I love growing Zinnias..................and pumpkins.
I love everything about pumpkin growing. From the large "elephant ear" leaves to the wonderful bright colored and odd shaped balls at harvest time. I was not able to grow pumpkins last year because we suffered the worst drought............but this year, the vines are already getting strong and leafing out.............I cannot wait until fall!!

I planted radishes in the organic soil bags, the new gardening method I have recently been posting about, and look............aren't they just beautiful?
I am really beginning to like bag gardening..........especially for vegetables like this.
How about you?
What is your garden offering up at this time of year?
How is the weather in your area?
I would love to hear!

Roses! But I've had a patch cleared against a sunny fence; If I plant pumpkins this week I can still have them by fall. One year I planted the big flat french pumpkins and got loads of huge ones, I like to harvest them with along stem and leaves still attached. Its cool here mostly (Central coast of CA.) but if I find just the right spot I can grow vegetables. Your radishes are amazing.

We are SO dry that my little garden has no chance to offer up anything. I did see a few green peppers and onions, but the other plants are holding their little leaves up, praying for rain.

By the way, the scripture at the top of your blog is such a good one; people need to live by it.

Kathleen, I love when you show all the wildflowers that grow there. There is nothing here really to compare with that. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

Isn't gardening fun! I have grown brussel sprouts before and they were delicious. I'd love to have the recipe you found. I like them halved and sauteed in butter, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I add a little brown sugar. mmmmmmm.

Your produce is beautiful. Who would think that all that would grow in the heat in West Texas! :D
You are a wonder!

Your vegetables and flowers are beautiful. Lets hope we don't have another summer like 2011. So far we have been in the low 90's as a high, but tomorrow is June.

For now its all kinds of flowers . I might get into veggie gardens next year . The weather here is a mixed bag of humidity, rain, sun and cool breezes. Everything there looks great glad it all is working out and growing for you. Great photos and post. Have a good day !

Boy oh boy, temps in the hundreds, and we have rain and temps in the 50's. Amazing how different 2 places in the same country can be.

The flowers are so cheerful and you're harvesting radishes,WOW !

I hope your Brussels sprouts are successful. They are my favorite vegetable. Did you publish the recipe you like so much?

WE kind of gave up on pumpkins, but maybe now that so many trees are down from the ice storms we can think about them for 2013.You have a very green thumb that is pretty good with a needle too !

We are still in the growing stage. You are much warmer than us so your things are further along!

Wow! Your bag gardens are impressive-I may try this.

I'm trying to get all my tomatoes planted-eggplants and cukes too...lots of seeds I want to get sown-my back has prevented me from diving into the work like I want to. But it'll happen...Lots of sun, enough rain here. Today it's cool-60 or so-quite a change from the 80 degrees. Everything is lush and green.
I just love seeing your garden and hearing about where you live-it's so different from us here in the Finger Lakes of New York.

The new dog likes getting up before us and jumping on the bed...like 3 hours before us!! But I normally like to get up before the others and wander around or just sit still and look and listen. nice photos

I love getting up and outside early too, Kathleen... it seems like this time of year the ground just drinks up the dew that falls the night before.
I can't wait to see your pumpkin crop this fall!

Your wildflowers are gorgeous! I love the early morning so much! OOh, and brussel sprouts! I hadn't thought of planting my pumpkins yet but I should. I just planted my beans, and I hope they do well. I feel like I waited so late to do it! Oh, and my carrots didn't come up! :-( I will be posting a garden update soon....everything else is looking great!

Beautiful, your garden is lovely, flowers are in my garden, no veggies except for basil. We don't have sun in one spot long enough for veggies. The weather today was cooler and kinda grey but it was nice anyway, some gorgeous clouds. love,Diana

Kathleen, we have small green tomatoes on the vines and a couple of small cukes. Your radishes are lovely, but neither of us enjoy them. Hope you include the brussel sprout recipe when yours are ready.
