I have had these beautiful vintage light fixtures for years,
and since our home already has it's own vintage light fixtures, these beauties have lain in wait..........
each one has it's own style and
loveliness...........I love the color and scalloped edge on this one, especially.............
each one has little holes, or larger ones, either on the sides, or on the base, for perfect drainage.
Which makes them perfect for planting moss rose in......
I was thinking of some other kind of flower..........
but moss rose is beautiful when it drapes over a container and it is always so cheerful when it blooms.
How about you?
What" out of the ordinary thing" do you like to use for planting?
I would love to hear!

What charming planters those old fixtures made! And the moss roses looks really pretty in them. I had to give up planting those. The ground here is so fertile and their seeds spread everywhere and make more. It took me almost ten years to finally get rid of all the one that volunteered!
What a clever idea, Kathleen. Those fixtures are pretty by themselves, but the moss roses really look nice growing in them too.
These really are unique! Now I will be hunting for them at the flea markets and antique mall! I have also seen them with chain through the holes and used to hold candles as a hanging candle holder.

I like the moss rose.... so pretty and your "planters" show them off nicely. The last unusual(?) planter I used was an old brown stoneware beanpot with a handle on each side to plant my English Ivy in, and it seems to be doing well. I am heading toward an "English style cottage look" in my new home.
I love them . What an awesome idea . They look soo cute . Have a great day !
Those is just beautiful. I have seen old ones-but not blue-so pretty!
I'm hoping to plant some old sinks with flowers this year-I love junk!
I love old rusty items in the flower beds. I've added an old tricycle to mine this year. Rose moss is a tried and true favorite; I have a "nursery" of tiny plants that I'm hoping to transplant from soon.
These old fixtures make lovely planters.
Leave it to you to think of that. I would love to sit on your steps. I just might be vintage enough : )
How clever I have several of those, now I wonder...............

Your old light fixtures make just the loveliest planters...love your creativeness. I usually go for rusty old junk. Recently, I found a couple of old blue enamelware pans with rusty bottoms that I am now using for planters.
Unique! and very pretty! I, too, live out in the country and I love it after 40 years in the city! I planted my fairy garden in a three tiered veggie and fruit basket.
I have three old coal buckets filled with rose moss, but it never comes back for me. I love laundry tubs. I have one that is square and it has wheels and a big handle like a stroller. Hubby hates it but I love it! I have two others that sit on stands and an old round one that just sits on the ground.
What a wonderful collection of tubs & buckets I love to see old items re used they make lovely garden tubs.

Kathleen, I have not used anything other than some plastic pots for outdoor plantings this year. In the past I did use a boot scraper which had a frog on the front, but the base would not hold much soil. Your use of the old and pretty light fixtures was very creative.
These look so shabby cottage garden cute!!
*hugs*deb
Fabulous idea, they are so cute. We just got a new pedestal sink and my son took the old one for a planter, he can't wait to get going on it.
That's a wonderful idea, Kathleen!
Your roses are so beautiful...
I LOVE these! I don't know if you remember my post about the ones I have of my grandmother's. Yours and mine are just so beautiful and delicate! I would be so afraid to fill mine with dirt. I'd be afraid it would ruin them. Maybe if they didn't have sentimental value I would. Also, I'd be so afraid they'd get chipped, too. I love that blue box you have to plant in too though by the way. It all looks wonderful!
