and this is the time of year that I clear the grounds
of weeds and start to till up the hard packed earth of the garden spaces.........
getting them ready for next year's planting season. Although the grass will be removed, I still love the way the seeds look as if the grass is dressed in pearls.
The Zinnia beds and other flowers are enjoying this relief from the heat and starting to look vibrant and full in vivid color.
Some plants are just so lacy and dainty, that it is a shame to call them a weed.........

I am being supervised by a wary horned toad, as it watches me destroy the thick cover it was hiding underneath. There is so much to be done........it will take me all the way up past fall to finish.

They say that cooler weather is coming next week-----I hope so and also rain. Going now to check your fruit salad recipe.

We have tried to till our garden but it's still too dusty and dry. I want to plant seeds for greens since we didn't make much of anything else this year.
Your flowers look very pretty. Did you finally get some rain?

Have a wonderful laborday and rest awhile before going back to work. I think we are supposed to rest from labor!!
My garden did nothing, so I will probably be pulling up what is left and working the bed. Very defeated this go round.

I am seeing the same things here, with exception of the horned toad. I have lizards in my garden and we share. Still so much to do before winter.
Hi Kathleen! I'm getting ready to weed too!Extreme heat has kept me indoors and my flower beds look abandoned for sure. Lee is dumping lots of rain and cool temps are coming so I'm going be slinging them weeds to kingdom come in a few days! XO
Horned toads are such fun to have around - insatiable eaters of ants! We used to have them a lot in Midland - I have a funny tree climbing variety here in North Texas - not so rounded looking.
Always something to do when we live in the country!If I were close by I'd drop by to purchase a bucket full of those lovely zinnias!
We're getting some cooler days on the VA eastern shore as well, Kathleen. Also, our garden is coming to end, but we still have some eggplants, tomatoes and peppers to harvest.

It was still warm on Monday..in the 90's...but today is rainy and in the 50's.

Hi Kathleen, I do hope that you and yours are not in harm's way from the wildfires I've been reading about online. The fruit salad recipe is something I plan to make as we eat fruit every morning and usually have a salad in the fridge.
