Two Worlds

At 5:00 AM, the rooster crows to let me know he has seen the light come on in my house,
and I walk out to say goodbye to him , the hens, and the ducks that make up the barnyard gang.
I leave this world I love and hold dear...............

and by 6:30, I am busy filling orders of bacon and eggs- over- easy to the different hungry visitors at the diner. This hectic world, where the grease stings my arms like angry bees, and at times, makes me feel like Lucy in the chocolate factory.............(do you remember that show?) has been the place I visit for the early part of my day. By 2:00 in the afternoon, the burgers and orders that have piled up before me, have finally disappeared and once again, the diner is quiet. I have gotten used to my new surroundings.............so much that I know the kitchen and everything in it as if it were my kitchen at home. This world.................one I have chosen to fill in gaps that have long needed to be filled.............leaves me exhausted.
I then leave this world................
(Lincoln Peas from the seeds of Hometown Seed Company)
and come home to the world I have busily worked to build around me. A world where everything is fresh and green................

quiet............... and taking it's time to grow.................

(green beans from the seed of Hometown Seeds)
a world that I love to work in until the sun sets..................

In this world............welcome purrs and soft fur wait for me..............

patiently..............no matter how long it takes me to get the job done.................

A world that beckons to me..................and tells me to slow down and enjoy what I see.
And I do!
How about you?? Are you living in two worlds? Which do you like the most? Your work world............or your home? Or do you have another world where you can escape??? I would love to hear!

Some days I really enjoy my job. Other days I so wish I was at home! I really wish I didn't "have" to work. I wish I could afford to volunteer. My job has little status and is sometimes physically demanding, but I work with disabled kids and I know my job IS important in many I'm concerned that as I'm getting older and more health problems, I won't be able to keep it up. Then what? Trust God to provide is all we can do.

I so love my home world. It's peaceful and filled with love and I can have the time to create and heal from my recent surgery...I am busy getting ready for a new grand baby coming in July. I'm glad that you are happy and things are going well for you! Come say hi :D

Hi Kathleen - I'm like you. I would love to quit my job and stay home and piddle in my garden. But it's not meant to be just yet. I LOVE being in my garden or the yard. I love watching things grow. I'm glad your Hometown seeds are doing so well. I have mine in the freezer still. I think I told you I'd already put some store bought ones out and will save my Hometown seeds for fall or next spring. Isn't it wonderful that we DO have that beautiful place to come home to and be able to spend time in the garden and unwind... And have time with our critters, too. And oh yeah, let's not forget the family!

I'm like you Kathleen...I cherish the time spent in the garden or with the pets. Our other world is filled with dr. appts., waiting rooms and physical therapy for John. There's nothing like pulling in the driveway and being greeted by cheerful flowers and devoted pets!
I really enjoyed your pictures in this post. I hope today is a nice day for you.

I enjoy both of my worlds, but am glad I have both to balance things for me. I need the peace and quiet of home at the end of a busy day. I love the flowers photo, Kathleen. :)

Hi Kathleen,
Two worlds under one roof YES. Upstairs my sewing room/studio. Quilting, sewing, design my chosen job and I love it but it is work none the less..make no mistake about that. Downstairs, the heart of my home cooking, family,my porch and my little tomatoes happily growing in the Atlanta sunshine.

I love my life and thank God everyday for all the blessings he has given me.

I understand your feeling of two worlds - gratitude for the income of an outside job but hating to leave our "nests" for long hours. My second world is really the doctor appointments, blood tests and keeping up with oxygen machines, testing equipment and so forth for DH - and praying for strength and peace for us both during this time.
Your garden looks wonderful - I'm hoping to get some things in our containers this week - too busy lately.

Those flowers are so pretty! These days I only have my one world. I worked in 2 for many years, before deciding to stay home with my kids. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a part time job. Maybe one day.

You made me very hungry and it is lunch time around here!

Just look at the growth of your vegetables, it is still very cold and wet around here, last week it was in the 30's again, but soon, very soon maybe this part of the country will begin to see ripe veggies outside of the greenhouse.

It is so nice and pleasant to be in the garden, and with a purring cat close by, isn't it?

I am no longer living in 2 worlds... thank-you Lord! I am not one who does well for very long working in an 'outside' world. I have done so when needed but my heart has always been in my home. I just hope I can continue to stay here.

Such a nice post! Your garden is coming along beautifully. I wonder what Sophie and Salem think about your being away in the mornings and early afternoons?

I'm a vegetarian, but I gotta say that cheeseburger is making my mouth water...

It's absolutely fantastic that you have the 'fresh & green' world to come back to. I used to work outside my home too until my son was born and am currently enjoying this compared to the rush that life was.

Reading the comments I see that everyone seems to have more than one world. It's like walking through a house and each room is a different country and all have their own names and needs. I love it that you accomplish so much, the beautiful garden and flowers and food and still make time to share it with us. Thank you Kathleen.

As I near retiremnet age I long for home more and more. Work is always the same, the problems change but they are the of the same type I have always delt with all my working life... some 43 years now. I hope there comes a time when I can just enjoy daily living with my husband and doing whatever WE want to do.

Work is work....and I'm sure you give from your heart while at it. Your home is where you feel most comfortable and it shows! I'm glad you have part of each day to touch the soil, pet the dog and gather the eggs!!
I scrubbed two very dirty buses today. Two years ago business was good enough that we hired that work done. Not any longer. It's me and mine doing it! I thank God for the blessings we have and the farm to come home to. Fresh eggs and good food! :)
Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Your garden looks beautiful Kathleen! I know you must love coming home to such a wonderful and peaceful sight, not to mention having Sophie and the rest of the gang waiting for you when you get there!

Being (semi)-retired ( now mostly retired, I can relate to your desire to be in another place. Aplace that is simplistic, yet complex. Back to nature. Great pictures!

Hi Kathleen. Yes, I am troubled as I do live in two worlds although when I stop and take inventory of the people that I work with and the sense of community that I derive from my work, I am in awe. Like the Stickhorsecowgirl, I dream of the day when I just volunteer and get the same sort of sense of community.

I don't have to ask 'how does your garden grow'! It is gorgeous!

When IO first got married I told my hubs that at age 39 I would never work another day in my life unless I wanted to so he'd better be planted by then ... I did just that. I enjoyed all the year of my adventures in gardening, genealogy & having an antique business ... but I must share, good upon my word about quitting my job, that same year I was found to have a nasty disease ... so it wasn't a bed of roses, but every day I do not look back with regret.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Beautiful flowers. And your cats are adorable. I am a homemaker, but, we lost our 16 year old son in Nov 2003. I struggle with depression.

I think I will glean much from you. We live on a farm and have done nothing to it yet. Jack and me just move so slow anymore. But we'll get there.
