What Happens On A Windy, Dusty, Day?

Sophie looks longingly out the window towards the road that takes us on our long walks together. She knows there is no way she can get me out today for a walk. The wind is roaring outside and the dirt is thick and heavy in the air.
I won't even let the chickens out of their pen to walk the grounds today. The wind would blow every feather off.....enough for the farmer's wife... miles down the road to gather and make a nice pillow with! We can't have that...now can we? {: Today they will stay in the shelter of the hen house until a better day comes to roam. So...what's there to do on a day like this?

Abbey, who loves to sleep on her back, thinks it is the best day for a long nap.

Salem, who spends his days roaming outside has agreed with her and settles in for the day.

Max......well, Max always thinks a day is for sleeping. He doesn't even know about the wind outside.

Don't you think everyone should sleep this well?

Boo has found her comfy spot and is just about to close her eyes.....if I would just stop taking pictures. But she is smiling for me.

Sophie sighs a deep sigh, glances at me while I sew, and lays down her head. .....If you can't beat em, join em!

Oh what sweet pics of the pets. Did you too get sleepy trying to sew???

Your pets are so sweet. Even the chickens.

Now there's some comfy critters there! Wouldn't it be nice to roll up in a ball and fall asleep that quickly?

And yes, please keep the chickens inside today. We certainly don't need to see NAKED chickens crossing the road!

windy here today also - yes sometimes in W. Tex it is best to let the wind have it's way and just snuggle down safe and secure - wise animals and wise woman with whom they live!

We ended up Spring-like here today - sorry you had crazy wind weather. Sophie will get out for a long walk, soon, I'm sure. I love when you post pics of the chickens! Everyone looks so happy and content.

I wish I could sleep like that! I stayed all day too.

Now I think a nap sounds like a fine and dandy way to spend that kind of day, your pets and poultry seem to agree !

Oh, I do believe they have the right idea :-)

Wanted to let you know that you have inspired me to make my own garden journal. Thanks for the idea!

I saw on the PBS program that Texas has a lot of wind at a certain time and plays havoc with everything...when that happens it's good to use that time to rest up for the good days ahead..Ginny

Oh, Kathleen!
You do have such a sweet way of telling how you spend your days!
Would the feathers really blow off the chickens - or am I taking that much too literally? (I've told you that I know nothing!)

You scared the beeheebies out of me with your snake story! I know to look out for them (having grown up in the woods) but I can't seem to stress that enough to the children. I DON'T like snakes -- no way!!!

I just love your winter pictures around the farm -- or is yours really a ranch? You've got a HUGE spread, chick!!! I'm sorry to hear there were some driving fatalities during the winter weather, but you're so right -- we just don't know how to drive in that stuff, here, in the south.

Another thing -- I don't think I can thank you enough for posting about your garden journal!!! I read an article, recently, in one of my magazines (not sure which one or if it was current or old) about garden journals. I bought a couple of sketch pads (on clearance) but have yet to start one -- I don't want to mess it up! I've done some searching and can't find hardly ANYthing about it! So your post came at a perfect time! I'm going to be re-reading and staring at the pictures for a while to come!

Many Blessings,
Julie

Dear Kathleen,
What precious photos of your sweet and darling pets, and what a sweet account of your day with them! Poor Sophie! I hope the wind has died down so you both can resume your daily walk!

Have a blessed day!
Love, Paula
