Old Man Winter Came By To Visit....Such A Cold Old Soul!

I was awoken at 5:30 this morning by the ringing of the phone. "The school will not be having classes and the buses will not run until 10:00 A.M due to the severe weather from last night." A few minutes later the bus driver calls to say buses will not run at all but that my son would have an excused absence from school if we did not want to risk driving him in.We live 30 miles away and the roads are treacherous during these times... So today... he is off.I bundle up to step outside to check on my critters. The woods surrounding me creek and crack under the weight of the ice that old man winter dressed them in.
The wind chill is already making my hands numb as I take these photos, but the air is so clean feeling and there is a still quietness surrounding me. I am lost in the moment' s peace.

Nothing is stirring....even with the wind blowing, the leaves and stems are frozen in time.

Our giant pine tree....standing tall and strong, dressed in an icy sage green. Pine trees always seem to possess a beauty in snow and ice.

I make it out to the pens and hen house and hear the barnyard gossip of chickens and ducks before I even get the frozen gate open. I stuffed their house and nest boxes with extra hay yesterday when I heard this spell was on the way. They are fluffy and warm and eager to see me. It is supposed to stay this way up until Friday... and we will then see temperatures in the 60's. So I'm off to make a pot of soup, hot chocolate, and to stitch all day. Everyone stay warm and I will catch up with you next week!

Your tree is lovely wearing its ice cape. Soup and hot chocolate sound good on a day like you are having. Good day for stitching too. Enjoy the peace and quiet.

Miss Kathleen,
What do you think that the chickens and ducks were saying, when you went to check on them? I'm giggling as I'm imagining!!!

Those pictures are beautiful! I know what you mean about your fingers freezing from the windchill but you just can't make yourself go in because of the fresh, clean air and sheer amazement of the beauty of it all.
God is so good and He just makes the neatest things!!!! That pine tree is especially gorgeous!!!

Oh! And you are really too kind -- I seriously, SERIOUSLY don't know anything about gardening. I've grown a couple of watermelons and a truckload of pumpkins -- but apparently they're foolproof (if I can do it!) About 10 years ago, we had a little backyard garden, but my husband did most ALL of the work. Before then, I only helped my Daddy with our gardens (and he stopped when I was about 12-13.)
Anywho....

Have you ever seen pink overalls? That's a great idea, you have! Can you stand another secret from me? I've never worn overalls! Shriek!!! I've worn my husbands coveralls, when I was powerwashing and painting. Does that count? They weren't pink, though....
I'm not sure if I could bear to get pink ones, dirty?!?

Okay, I've taken up your whole comment box...Sorry :*o
Blessings,
Julie

Snuggle down and have a nice quiet snow day! The pics of the ice and frost are just beautiful. Much as I like the cold, sometimes I feel like my fingers stay frozen the whole Winter.

The temperature is dropping here as the day moves on but nothing like what you have. And it's absolutely beautiful. Cozy in with all your little critters and enjoy your day.

An ice storm can be a beautiful thing but so dangerous. We are only getting rain here in the mountains of NC
Stay warm.

SNuggle up and keep warm! Hot soup and cocoa sounds wonderful. That ice looks like lace on your trees. Thanks for sharing those pics. I don't know if ice will come our way or not. The temps are falling and they say we have a chance. Guess I better get my soup pot out just in case!

Love the chilly pictures! Now you've got our weather! We've been having delays for school at least once a week. But it's warmed up to the 40s this week.

Oh I used to love snow days when I was little!
It's 72 here in Mississippi ~ more like iced latte than hot chocolate weather!
Keep warm and have fun stitching!

Your pictures are lovely as usual even if your finding the weather less than lovely. Wow, thirty miles is a long bus ride even on a good day!

Old Man winter is starting to be rude....he has been here long enough!!! I loved your pictures!!! There is something so peaceful about a cold day...especially when the earth is covered with snow. I love to hear the birds sing but there is another song that plays on a cold day, perhaps it is the prelude to spring.

I love the trees but I couldn't make myself crawl out of my warm bed as early in the morning as you do. The soup sounds great!

It is beautiful as long as you don't have to go out or lose power. Wow! Y'all live far away from the school. Hope you're able to stay warm.

Yes, what beautiful clothes winter dresses the landscape in! A day at home with loved ones, and projects...and no where else to go, perfect!
