The Important Day of Opal Cluck

Out in the hen house, in a nest full of hay,
Sits Opal Cluck McChicken...ready to start her day.
She stands and fluffs her feathers, and stretches her wings out long.
She starts to scratch her chicken dance and croons her cackling song.

To the farm she's important...just look at that smiling beak.

Her one egg a day produces enough
for all baked goods all week.

For this feathered friend, I'm thankful...
I count my blessings and luck.
And I hope you, too, have a chicken
Just like old Opal Cluck.

I wish I had an Opal Cluck lol. I didn't think that looked like a smile though. It looks like a "I want to peck you."

Eggs are just a miracle, aren't they? Such a gift. She's a gorgeous bird lady!

Kathleen, I think I have Opal Cluck's twin sister! She is the same color anyway. Chickens bring a sense of peace and well-being to a farm I think, and I love my farm-fresh eggs! .... and I love your poetry!

Opal is a pretty girl. My "girls" are starting to get back into a good egg laying pattern after taking a little time off. I'm down to only 5 hens but i'm getting 3 eggs/day.
they are fun critters to watch, aren't they?

Yea Opal! No Opal McChicken this winter here, somebody needs to go to the chicken coop to give them the word (it always seems to work). The great news is we have several Maggie Quack McDucks and tons of duck eggs right now. Really enjoyed the post today Kathleen. Really truly, it was what I needed.

How cute and clever you are! Love the poem. And I love the nest with the little feathers and the colored eggs. It's almost worth just gazing at their colors and the farm'y feelin' it gives as it is eating them! Almost makes you feel like you laid them yourself you're so proud! Haha -

Oh Kathleen!
Your sweet poem just made me smile and laugh! I love it!!! I would love to have a dear Opal Cluck of my own! She is so pretty and her eggs are beautiful! We have a place to keep chickens and I am hoping my dear husband and sweet son will build a cute chicken coop soon. For now we buy our eggs from a family farm and they are so good. I look forward to getting them from my own back yard though! Thank you for sharing!
Have a blessed day!
Love, Paula
