Stones around the pond and a little bit of garden

Well, it's not quite done yet, but here is a small amount of what I have been adding to the ponds edge.

I have placed some rocks around the edge, but will go and rearrange them to make them fit better . I think we actually got enough rock on our trip!

The boards that go across one edge is to offer shade during the day for the fish, until I get the lilly pads to grow and spread. I have the lilly pads in a container and one is starting to sprout! I still need to place more rock on the edges to smooth out the liner. The little fish we placed in the pond have grown double their size. I keep trying to take a picture, but they are just to fast and swim away.

Gathering stones

The property my mom lives on has a section of lake that runs along a little way down the road from her. This is where I have gathered the colorful stone for my greenhouse path. As you have read in previous posts, we are fixing up a pond. So off to my mom's a few days ago, my sweetie and I went in search of the perfect stones to place around the pond's edge.

This is still a public lake and I think a few people gather on the weekends as evidence from the fireplace made on the bank. However, only a handful of people come out here.
I love the clay stones that lay around the waters edge the most. When the stones are dry, their colors are red and gray, when the stones are wet, the gray turns into a turquoise color.

While sweetie was gathering the larger heavier stones, I gathered up small pebble size stones. These are great to fill in the path spaces and for flower beds.
The day was hot and the water cool and inviting. My mom and I slipped off our shoes and waded in the shallow edge.

Here are the stones waiting to be placed around the pond. Each one is so different in size and color. I will be working this weekend and hopefully have pond pictures. However, sweetie thinks there is not enough and that we may have to go back and get some more. I am ready! I promised Sophie she might get to go. She has not been to a lake yet and I can't wait to see how she enjoys running around. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The dove flys away

The little dove stayed a couple of days and got rested up. He began eating and drinking on his own, so I took him out, opened up my hands and away he flew! I am so glad he made it! The weekend is upon me so I must get to work. Have a wonderful weekend!

The gentle side of life

Hi everyone, I hope this finds that all of you had a wonderful holiday weekend! We had a wonderful, somewhat quiet weekend. We grilled outside, had our own miniature firework show late in the night, and caught a movie. As I stated in my last post, I found a more gentle side of life to capture on camera instead of the creepy and crawly. However, there are still plenty of them!{:
The little goldfish we placed in the "dish" pond are doing well. They seem to be shy, but I was able to catch one's photo during feeding time.
Also, the frogs have found the pond and seem to enjoy floating around, until they see me and then they dive to the bottom.
I just love the way butterflies cluster together and fly around. I was able to catch this one being still on the wild daisies that grow on the grounds. I just love it's color.
Baby lizards seem to be every where this time of year. Although he looks quite big, he is only about an inch and a half long. Such a cutie.

I am always amazed to find such intricate design and color in the insect world. This rainbow colored grasshopper was hiding in my potted plant.

This poor little dove was floating in our pond, barely alive. Apparently, he was trying to get a drink, and fell in. When I fished him out, he was ice cold and gasping. I have him currently wrapped in warm towels and he has quit gasping, however, I am not sure if he will make it through the night. If he does, he can be released back into the wild. I will let you know as the weeks goes on.

Have a wonderful July 4th!!

Hello everyone! Life has swept me away once again, to pumpkin vines, knee high weeds, and newly planted flower beds. There is life growing in the new pond and I hope to have some good pictures for you to see. I have stumbled upon some gentle creatures and some more naughty snakes. New sprouts are coming from the green house and on every afternoon walk, new colors, new sounds, and new discoveries are waiting. The upcoming holiday will have my hands busy. I will be back to catch up on your adventures and let you know what has happened here. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
