Last year I planted a mixture of flower seed in the large flower bed on the side of our house. It rained and washed some of the seed out along the edge. This ground cover is the result and it is so pretty. It doesn't grow too high and when dug up, it has roots like that of an Ivy vine. I can't to save my life, remember the name of this. Do any of you know? It comes back by itself after winter. 
To make the rock path I just made to the greenhouse door look not so bare, I planted this little plant in between the stones. Not sure if they will survive the transplant. 
If it survives, hopefully in a few weeks, there will be green among the red and white stones. 
As you can see, my supervisor is making sure I get the job done right. Salem has been my constant companion ever since I brought him home last May.

Your walkway and green house area will be such a refuge! I think the dichondra will do well but might need more water than some other things.
I love your supervisor - I am longing for another cat but we are on a saving money thing now and animals are costly no matter how frugal we are!
Hi Lindasue, I completely sympathize with you. It does take a lot to feed the family and the pets here. Chicken feed keeps going up almost $1.00 each time I go to the feed store...and we all know about groceries and gas. I have been stocking our pantry as well as pet feeds, because the gas is so much with us living so far out from town...so I am trying not to go shopping for at least 3 weeks at a time.Since my husband and son work in town on different days, they can pick up items such as milk and butter. Thanks for the info on the plant. I am not sure how it will do since the path is in the hot sun during the day. So good to hear from you! blessings, Kathleen

I just found your beautiful blog, and while i cannot help you identify that plant, i was wondering if you could tell me what breed Sophie is? I rescued a dog from "down South" (I live in Upstate NY) and my Zinnia looks an awful lot like your Sophie! We are just guessing she is part cattle dog? Border collie? Terrier? Whatever she is we just love her to pieces! Thanks for any help you can give us! :) mare

I don't know about your plant Kathleen.... I think you have some plants in Texas that probably don't grow here in East Tenn.- the only thing we have that comes back every year like that is Kudzu and that's a bad word around here! It literally takes over and you can't kill it!
Your pathway looks great! Isn't it fun how cats like to keep a watchful eye out on you. Salem looks like a wonderful companion. :)

Kathleen, may I throw my 2 cents please? I'm no expert on plants, but I have that stuff in my hard (live in East Texas) and I was told it was dollar weed. It sort of takes over my centipede and it's hard to get rid of. I could be wrong, just passing along what I was told. It does look good among the rocks, tho, whatever it is! Vickie
I bet Vickie is right! Did a google for dollar weed http://www.weedalert.com/weed_pages/wa_dollarweed.htm and it surely looks similar - you have to decide - it is a weed to you or a desirable plant! I'm chuckling because this is the classic "one man's trash is another's treasure"!
Kathleen the plant is dollar weed and spreads with underground runners, that is why it is hard to get rid of. I've been spraying mine with round-up, but can't seem to completely kill it. Once it gets in your grassit takes over.

Kathleen, I don't know about the plant, but I will say you are a woman after my own heart! I just love to work outside in my yard, and now that we've moved back out in the country, I am sort of starting over. It's too hot right now, but I do a little at a time; it may take me years to get the yard I want.
And, yes, we are "kind of" neighbors. I live between Lamesa and Sem. Don't want to put that on my blog, however.
