February brought a mixture of extreme cold days and then sunny pleasant days. Now March is here and the trees at this time are still bare and in their winter sleep. This is a good time for me to walk the woods and to really see nature's gifts that I would, in the summer season ,not be able to see.
I gather empty wasps nests from the bare trees. In summer they are full of buzzing wasps and not easy to see with all of the leaves surrounding them.
I find the wasp amazing creatures. They can build their homes with such precision.
Each nest , to me, looks like a piece of art.
I keep a few nests stored in brown paper bags to decorate in wreaths or sprays
With just a few, I decorated with beads and silk flowers.
Also making a small bead wasp to be on the nest. These make unique and whimsical wall hangings.
I could not resist the pretty pansies at the local nursery.
I really love the color orange.
Usually I choose the pansies in the colors of blue and pink. What is your favorite color??
This year I decided on the orange and yellow. They look so cheery and full of warmth.
So tell me........what is sprouting up in your back yard?
I would love to hear.

You have gathered quite a collection of empty wasp nests. Very creative use of them too.
I love all colours of Pansies. I think I'll choose purple and orange this year.
Yellow always gives such a bright lift to any garden, but purple pansies would be my favourite. As you move into spring and summer, all colours will start to show up.
Amazing what you did with the wasp nests. Love the idea.
I have never seen anyone use wasp's nests in a creative way before. In fact I've always been afraid that they lay eggs in them that would hatch out in the spring. Therefore; when I find them I crunch them. You have given me a new perspective on the nests of wasps. I think what you're doing is beautiful and I can just imagine a wreath made from them. Thank you for sharing, you're a very creative soul.
Kathleen, you have devised such creative ways to use the wasp nests, thankfully with all the former inhabitants gone. I agree that these are truly amazing in their construction. My favorite colors are purple and red the orange and yellow pansies do evoke thoughts of spring. No gardening for us.
We still have a lot of snow but I cut some forsythia branches today in hopes they bloom inside. I love Pansy in the spring. Very fun nature crafts.
Cathy
I'm afraid there is nothing but snow in my back yard. I did get some viola seeds that are the same orange. I like what you did with the wasp nests. Very cool.
