It's funny how one does not realize how quiet a house can be............

the ticking of the old mantle clock ticks on,
the sun glows through the window each early morning and late afternoon,
the wild birds and the wind can be heard from outside,
yet, it is just the normal sound that one is accustomed to ............
and then..........something changes...............
(my little nieces)
the wonderful sound of little ones...........laughing,
crying, yelling, running, and squealing,
the sound of dishes and silverware clinking among the
talk and laughter of loved ones, seated together over a meal,
and it all turns an ordinary day and a very quiet house
 into a magical time.
Everything  that was once slow and usual.....
turns into a burst of a happy and
memory filled time........one that
will be looked back on and remembered for years to come.
Now, our little group has gone..........returning to
their home and hurried lives.........
and now our house seems so very, very, quiet............
more than it ever seemed before.
I long for a time again, when soon,  these same
sweet sounds fill our house and hearts with such happiness!
It was the perfect way to end the month of July.

It always seems so empty and quiet after family leaves. It takes a while to get back to quiet feeling normal again. So special that you had that time together.

Your words tell a magical story, and the photo adds so much to the almost "Fairy tale". you need to save today's post and add it to a family album. Loved every word and will read it many times again.

I agree with Nancy. Your words ar so descriptive and this is a joy to read. I love the sweet photo. Keep the memory tucked into your heart until the next visit

Your words are beautiful. I sure know what you mean. It has been too long since we had family here for a visit. I miss all the grandchildren now that they are busy making their own lives or away at college. Looks like your little guests were enjoying their time as much as you enjoyed having them.

How wonderful it would be to have those precious grands living just over the way, so they could follow you about the place talking and laughing all the while. Happy memories, for sure!

There's not much of anything that thrills us like the laughter of children. My greats are growing up too fast. I love your photo's and as always I leave with a smile on my face. Thank you for that!

One can sense the empty-house feeling through your words, Kathleen, and the opening photos as well. There is a quietness when family members are no longer around, but hopefully they will return for celebrations and holidays and the home will once again be filled with their presence. Your nieces look very happy.

Sometimes I like being in a quiet house...then there are times I enjoy everyone over as it brings the house live! How fun to have the laughter of children around. Janice

I know the feeling when the house has become quiet again after a nice long family get-together ... Longing.
