Tis sweet as the day begins to dawn,
When the lark her song is singing,
To wander at will through the grassy lawn
Where fresh flowers around are springing.
’Tis sweet at that solemn hour to go
O’er the rocky slope, all alone,
Where the scattering streamlets freely flow...
’Tis well to inhale the earthly gale,
As it sweeps the green hill’s side...
Or to look on the wood in its leafy pride,
In the glen or on the grove, the dawn is fair,—
Morning is beautiful every where!

Beautiful!
Words so true and nothing better than the rooster to signal that start of another day wherever we are. Down here, skies still black, wind from the south is cold, the fire is lit, coffee made, and I think of the poem " Pippa Passes". Hope all is well with you a long way further north.
"It's time to get up!" he says.
Now that's the kind of poems I love to read. I also love to hear a rooster crow early in the morning. Our young rooster has really been practicing lately.
There's nothing better than an early morning walk. The birds do sing their sweetest at that early hour.
Love the picture of your rooster. The poem describes a morning walk perfectly. I hope you are having a good week! :)
Nice poem. I really enjoy mornings.
Tex is a colorful little rooster and I enjoyed the poem too, Kathleen.
He is beautiful! Is is tiny because he's a banty? We used to have a banty rooster named Elvis, he had a lot of personality and we loved him.
I love mornings too-I'm not much of a night person unless I purposely stay up to watch lightning bugs or the stars. Tex is a handsome guy!
