Another tree...........another new family!

When we first moved out here........many years ago......
I noticed......what I thought to be.....a baby hoot owl in the tree one night.
I commented on this to the lady who bought eggs from me and
she informed me that they were not baby hoots..........
instead they were small burrowing owls.......that never get
big.....they stay tiny! Since then, I see them quite often.
In my last post, I posted about the baby rabbit family who temporarily took up
residence in the back yard tree.........
now the front yard oak tree has a new family.........
3 small burrowing owls.  I have noticed them in the bird bath during
the day and thought it was odd to see them at such an early part of day.
Today ........early as can be.........they were all together in the
tree......keeping an eye on me.

They were very patient......letting me get a little
close to take photos........

These kinds of things always fill  me with awe
and makes me feel blessed to be able to
have seen it!  How about you?
What kinds of birds do  you have in  your trees?
I would love to hear!

They are so lovely, peeping down to see what is going on below. We have Tuis..sometimes called the "Parson Bird" because of the white tuft like a collar at their throat, and iridescent green feathers that can look very dark. Wax eyes, small and pretty, sparrows, grey, starlings, their feathers shine too, and although we rarely see them, the shining cuckoo. If you go to my blog on 23rd January, " Baby bird and little blocks " I have a photo of one shining cuckoo chick and his story.

That's awesome! We hear owls, but I rarely see one. They're beautiful!

I have read about your owls, and have always loved them. Of course we don't have them :(. We've got red-wing black birds, grackles, cat birds, 3 kinds of wood peckers, red-breasted grosbeaks, chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, robins, Baltimore Orioles, yellow warblers, wood thrushes, mourning doves...I'm sure there's more! They are eating so much suet, but I can't help it-I love them all so much.

Very lovely owls! We don't have very many types of birds because we don't have many trees around our house. We have a lot of starlings, robins and a pair of brown thrashers and also hummingbirds.

What a pleasure, Kathleen, to be able to see and show us these lovely owls. And, it's wonderful that they seemed to be unfazed by your presence and just enjoy the shade from your tree. As we live on the 5th floor in an apt, the birds we see are in the trees below, an assortment of blackbirds, sparrows, wrens, robins and on the water there are ducks and Canada geese.

How exciting! We hear owls here occasionally, but I've never seen one of them. Right now, I'm mostly watching young chicks! LOL!
