The morning has a calmness to it.......although the sky looks heavy

and I dread the bad weather that the news has reported will be upon us in just a matter of hours.
As Sophie and I walk around the grounds........I am surprised by what I see.......
is that really?..........can it be?..............

yes, it is!
A barn owl.....the same kind that came down the chimney a few weeks back,
is perched on the front porch beam

sleeping.........

It must have had quite the Christmas party last night to not even hear or see me as I creep up close for a better photo........
and then........it opens it's eyes, spots me,

and slowly, un-worriedly flies to the tree in the front yard, glancing frustratingly at me......
to have ruined it's nap.
It's feathers rustled by the breeze that is starting ..........
the announcement of the "blizzard warning" that is to come.........
blizzard??  We live in the western part of Texas........
where the word "blizzard" means a great treat from the local Dairy Queen.....
with bits of chocolate!!
It is predicted that we are to get 6+ inches of snow this weekend......with temperatures dipping down to 12 degrees............
I'd rather have the frozen treat..........wouldn't you?

beautiful creature! The weather is so weird isnt' it? Here in the mountains of NC today it hit 70*! We've had no snow yet this yr. Not sure what the rest of winter will hold.

Take care! We are going to get the high winds and flooding here in the DFW area. Already beginning to get ominously dark!

Your owl is a true delightful fellow, And your weather, I hope those fierce winds keep away, and gentle snow falls quietly.

What a beautiful owl!

I do hope your have no damages from the stormy weather headed in your direction. Dipping down to 12 degrees, is awful.

Oooh, Kathleen, I just looked at the radar. Hope you stay toasty warm! Your barn owl is so neat! No clue what the rest of the winter will hold. Nothing has been too normal lately, has it?

What a beautiful creature that owl is. I've heard them in our big hackberry at night, but I've never gotten to see one. We have little screech owls that aren't that shy. So did you get that snow?

Hope you didn't get snowed in too badly or lose electricity! Mom back in Virginia didn't fare to badly in that storm but one of my sisters lives in NY! LOVE your precious barn owl! What a delight to get to see him! Have you read, Wesley the Owl? It's an incredible book, and I know you would just love it.
