Here.........in October.............the fields lie in thick, white

cotton

looking at the whole area from a distance makes one think that it is snow

the woods is a mixture of dry, green , and blooming native plants

One particular flowering plant is so pretty. It is almost like baby's breath that is used in bouquets..........but in a cheery yellow.

It makes a beautiful accompaniment with the sunflowers that are also in bloom.

Also during this time of year.....the fog settles and envelopes the house.......

the grounds........

and lingers even after the sun has risen in the morning.
October is also the time that I search for new dishes and desserts to serve on my holiday table.
This is a wonderful pie recipe
Cranberry Cheese Crumb Pie
You can get the recipe on my cooking blog

The cat " Hobo" has still called our place " home" and I have changed his name to
"Homer"
The nights are getting chilly and the coyotes are getting closer in their search for food.
I have been worried about this tough old cat's safety.
There is a large  hatching/brooding crate in my chicken house, full of fresh hay...
and unoccupied. During the cold winter days, the chicken house also has heating lamps to keep the chickens warm
I decided that I would put Homer out in the crate over night for his protection.
I was amazed at how easily he has accepted this " night time jail"
As long as he has a big bowl of food......he is quite content and is glad to see me each morning when I open the door and let him out.
So what has October brought your way?
I would love to hear.

Hello Kathleen,

Love that cotton, it certainly looks like snow. Glad to hear that you cat likes sleeping in the cage, better to be safe than sorry. October we have been getting out and about before it gets too hot.

Have a happy day.
Bev.

I love seeing the cotton fields; so beautiful! Glad Homer likes his new bed too. :)

Some great photos. Things haven't changed much here yet although a few of the leaves are falling especially the other day when the wind was harsh.

Our daughter lived near Memphis for a time & when we visited we'd drive past the cotton fields that looked like snow, so pretty. The fog looks so spooky, perfect for the Halloween season. The coyotes are plentiful this year & their howling is haunting. We worry about Cappy & stay with her when she goes out after dark. No doubt Homer feels safe in his warm comfy bed!

Oooh, that pie looks wonderful, and my grandmother had those same plates! We don't grow cotton in Michigan so it is interesting to see what the fields look like. October has been busy, busy! Helping a friend set up an estate sale, and making jelly and cider.

I love seeing the cotton. My grandparents grew cotton when I was a child. I can remember the long rows and the long bags being filled with cotton picked by hand. How sweet of you to protect Homer during the dangerous nights. I like his new name, too. Hope he continues to thrive. He looks pretty happy!

A field of cotton is something we never see around here. A field of hay is more common :o) Sometimes, we hear coyotes here, too. My husband says they sound like a baby crying. It is getting colder now and the leaves are turning and falling. We are also gathering nuts (hickory nuts and walnuts). I made a sweet potato pie a few weeks ago. It was a first for me and I liked it! Your pie looks delicious!

I've never seen a field of cotton; however, this area used to be used for cotton fields. There used to be an old gin on the property owned by my husband's family. People went from cotton farming to growing peaches, and now the peaches are gone and poultry farming has taken their place. I can only imagine how pretty the cotton fields must be.

October, the month has flown. Firewood splitting, with help from 2 friends, some quilting, how could I ever think I would manage to have THREE projects on the go at one time? Lawns needing to be mown, spring bulbs blooming, Dutch Iris, Tulips, Ixia, Sparaxis, and the wee kitten Boris has grown into a big boy. Oh, and I needed to do a system restore, after the shortcuts, and my blog page and all else, was wider then it should be. Homer, he is a beauty, and like so many stray cats that may have lost their way, they know when to arrive at a home where they will be loved, fed so well, and safely housed overnight.

That cotton field is so pretty! That's a sight that can't be seen here where I live. Your pie looks delicious! You are so kind to provide Homer with a safe place for overnight. He looks quite happy in that photo.

Glad Homer adjusted t his night-time digs! I know it can get COLD! Love all your beautiful photos. Yes, fields of cotton thrill me. We even have them here, believe it or not, but I rarely get out to where they are to see them when they are snowy white.
