It's a bird!
A Curved Bill Thrasher flew into the chimney of our fireplace and got trapped during the day.
We opened the damper and placed a light inside of the fireplace to coax the bird out..........
and the very next morning........instead of the rooster's crow to awaken me..........
a shrill and loud chirp of this bird did the job. I was delighted to see that it found it's way out.........
but it was not thrilled to see me and started flying and darting all over the house, exciting myself and my dog Sophie. I am not tall enough to reach the window tops so the bird gave me my morning exercise flying back and forth, making me run back and forth with a towel, trying to shoo the bird out of the open door.
Instead the bird went straight into my kitchen and landed on my tea pot shelf!!!
I quickly ran outside to get a pond net that I use to swoop the fish up in, and tried to gently and carefully place it over the bird..............
The bird knocked off one of my favorite cups.......
Sophie, who had been enjoying the vigorous morning routine of excitement,
dashed away as the cup smashed to the floor. She cowered down..........thinking I was throwing dishes at her!! sigh
I finally caught the bird and tried to take a photo of it in my hand outside........but it broke free,
leaving me only with a couple of feathers and broken china.
But you know me............just make lemonade out of those lemons!
I used the broken pieces to make a mosaic plant dish. I made a tea cup with the broken flower chips from the broken cup............
and I was able to incorporate the handle of the cup into it as well!
Sometimes, it takes a push from Mother Nature to get me to be creative in the things I have put aside,
and I was able to give the broken china a new life.
The days have been extremely hot, but in the morning hours.........I feel a difference in the breeze as it blows across the tired prairie............Autumn is on it's way. The pumpkins are getting ready to leave the patch
and the flowers are blooming in vibrant colors as they enjoy the cool mornings.
Mother Nature seems to say..............."slow down".

Good Morning Friend, You are so creative; I would have been so upset about the teacup and wouldn't have thought to turn it into a work of art. Great job. Your shelf with the teapots and cups is darling. Here in Colorado, our evenings are cooling off and early mornings-I feel fall is in the air.
Hope you have a fantastic day!!!!
Hugs, Noreen
We had the same thing happen once; a bird in the chimney. :)
I like what you did with the cup, very creative!
I've had birds trapped in the house before, and yes they give exercise trying to get them out! I would have freaked the minute I saw it in my china! But what you created from it is so beautiful. What do you use to set the pieces? I have broken pieces I have been saving to do mosaics but don't know which kind of medium to us.
I'm so sorry one of your favorite cups was broken during the chase, but you did a wonderful job of reusing the pieces in the mosaic plant dish. It is lovely!
Ah ha, the rest of the story! I think you did a lovely job with the broken pieces, even incorporating the handle. Just lovely.

I cringed thinking of wild bird flying in the house and your china shelf. You did a great job with the pieces of china.
Its always nice to experience Nature first hand but not on your kitchen shelf.
But alas the bird is free and you did make a wonderful plate with the broken cup.
If you'd like to email me your mailing address I could certainly send you another lovely cup as working for an auctioneer provides me with many to choose from.
It appears to have had dainty pink roses on it right?

You just never know who's going to drop in, do you? LOL You did a beautiful job of gathering up the fragments that nothing be lost. You amaze me!
Your lemonade certainly turned out well!
I am so so sorry about the broken cup! But this was such a funny story. I was delighted by your telling of the poor curved bill thrasher, thrashing about your house, you in hot pursuit! :-) We had a mourning dove get caught in our chimney a couple of years ago (since then a wire was secured over the opening) and it was stuck for a few days. Finally our landlord was able to get him out, and we let him rest for a couple of hours because he had been fluttering so hard trying to get out. Then, we let our grandson hold him and take him outside to let him go. He flew away, none the worse for his ordeal.
I love that you turned it into a mosaic for your plants! You're right- sometimes it takes mother nature's help to get you to be a little creative! :)
Such a pretty picture of the shelf with platters and teapots! I noticed the on platter near the center right, it is a dark tan with gold design around the edge and a center rose design. This platter is like the set of dishes my Father bought my Mom for her birthday in 1939. I inherited the set from my Mom and love it dearly!!Only one bowl has been broken as we used them regularly for hot soups.I use the dishes for special dinners only!
