I have taken the cold days and my chickens for granted.............

if you remember a few posts back, I was frustrated that the cold weather had made my hens stop laying,

and I had to go to the store and buy eggs................

something I have not had to do for so many years because my chickens have always provided me with a wonderful surplus.
I have gotten very spoiled and realized it at the store looking at the prices of eggs.

I have only been looking in the top nests.............forgetting how those hens like to hide their eggs from me..........
while cleaning out the hen house this past week,
I came upon this nest.........full of beautiful eggs............
hidden in the very far corner of the hen house............
Not knowing how old these eggs are, I threw them away..........

with a disapproving look from Norman............
Since then, I have been getting 4 eggs a day and I no longer go to the store to buy any.
We have had such a beautiful and sunny week this past week
Here hoping that your nests are overflowing and that your days are sunny as well !

Glad to hear you are getting eggs again. Those are nice photos of your chickens. I especially like that last one.

It is very, very cold here. I'm spending a lot of time staying inside and staying warm.

Now that is a funny egg story; we do NOT wanted to be outsmarted by chickens. Glad you figured out their secret.

Oh my! These farm critters can pull the wool over our eyes! You'll soon be having another surplus as the days grow longer and warmer.

Your chickens are beautiful-so are those eggs. My geese should be laying in about 6 weeks. We love their eggs-they are HUGE! They taste very good too. My girls are getting old (13 in June) so I always flutter around when they are laying, just to make sure all is well!

Awww...those poor little hens were just confused by the cold! :-) Glad you aren't having to buy eggs in the store anymore. I bet a few of those eggs would have been edible. You could have done the sink or float test.

My mother had chickens, and I do miss the taste and color of a good egg!

I wish mine were laying, I bought my first dozen in a couple years. I forgot what white store bought eggs looked like, inside and out.

I did the same thing. How funny! I only have seven chicken left, but for now - that's enough.
