In the dead of winter, I say to myself, and at times, announce out loud to anyone who might be listening, that I am only planting a small garden of zinnias and pumpkins when planting time rolls around.
However, by March, I am walking the grounds, dreaming up garden designs and taking notice of where the sun lands the most and where the shade stays. By the end of March, the garden spaces have been tilled and I have created a couple of new ones.
Through April, I scan through seed catalogs and place orders. Regular trips to buy groceries always includes some kind of potted flower brought home.
I have started making small raised beds inside of my flower beds. The plants seem to grow so much better this way.
Now with May being here, my small purchases have accumulated in a good size collection and now gardens are taking shape.
I moved the potted plants out of the greenhouse and placed them in and around the raised flower beds.
Containers of all kinds are being used to hold lovely blossoms.
I have had this wire basket for a while. I used pink netting to hold the soil
and then planted super bells and petunias of the same shade. It looks like a purse full of pretty flowers!
I even gave Gertrude a new wardrobe...........
and a hat. I think she would smile if she could............
How about you?
Are you filling up your shopping carts with plants and then filling up you gardens when you get home?
I would love to hear!

I too, when at the stores that have garden centers, put a few potted plants in my cart. I am concentrating on perennials this year that will produce blooms most of the summer. This list is limited, but will be worth it over the next few years of blooms!
Hi Kathleen!
Your gardens look great! And Gertrude is lovely in her hat and skirt.
I've been setting out geraniums and impatiens this afternoon. Also, I dug up 10 tiny pine trees on our property that started from a neighbor's pine cones that fell in our pasture. I potted them and will set them out in the fall so I don't have to carry water to them all summer. I LOVE free trees. ;)
Did you get any rain yet? I sure hope so.
Oh, Kathleen, I always say the same thing. And every year I plant more. And right about now I am so glad because it is all so pretty! Love your oh-so-clever planting ideas! You have truly made an oasis in the desert!
I think you have too much of a green thumb to not have a garden every year. Your flowers are blooming and looking so pretty. I hope you have a nice weekend and a happy Mother's Day!
Such wonderful small garden spots. I love how you can see the time and care put into each one. Happy Mothers Day!
Love your clever idea of the raised beds inside the flower bed! Every thing is looking so lovely. Love your garden style!
Sunday Blessings,
Dru
You are just like me! :-) I get bitten by the gardening bug BAD every spring! Your flower beds look wonderful, and I love how you created a "pot" out of that wire basket and netting!
