but Gertrude has been standing strong..........with the help of her new sweater, she's as comfy as she can be!
With the cold temperatures, a lot of the flowers have now faded away and it is time to plant the cheerful pansy. I have a few tucked into beds, here and there............
but if you will remember..........I love to use old light globes as containers for pretty blossoms...........
Over the past few weeks, I have been able to find some beautiful pink ones in junk stores.............
I think yellow pansies look wonderful with pink............don't you?
This one has a textured feel to it....................
and the pansies look so cheery in the sun.
I also thought that these would be wonderful for smaller plants...............
such as this succulent called Tigers Teeth...............
I love the scalloped and ruffled edge to this one...............
which looks like a perfect basket for this pansy.
Although a lot of my Zinnia have died away, I still have a few on the patio blooming in the sun............I wish I could grow them all year long!
How about you?
Are you planting basketful's of pansies?
Do you have any flowers in your garden still hanging on?
I would love to hear!

Your Gertrude made me smile. I like her. I never ever thought of planting in glass globes. How do you close off the open bottom? So cute they are.
Your light cover planters are very pretty. I do wish I could be thinking about planting outside, but instead I've been bringing a few things inside! Digging up dahlia tubers....There are a few roses that may come out-but most things have turned brown-there's still a lot of beauty here though.
Everything there still looks lovely ,All my garden flowers have gone now that the cold weather is here ! But I brought in my Geraniums that are just bursting with blooms and new growth , they like the indoors ! I also have Christmas Cactus that are in full bloom now to ! Did you know there is a hybrid of Pansy now called Ice Pansy , they will flourish in cold weather and peek out of the snow . I would like to try them next year ! I take it you don't have snow but if the temps dip you still could try the Ice Pansies ! Have a good day !
The lamp shades are perfect for pansies, specially the small ones. I will look for Ice pnasy here, great for family in the South Island. Cheers from Jean
These are the neatest planters. I have got to find me some. So far the 2 thrift stores I have visited do not have any.
I do love your creative planters, Kathleen! They are each so pretty and your plants in them look mighty happy. I need to plant some pots now to brighten things up around here. And Gertrude looks very well dressed.
I love her new sweater. You are so creative.
Kathleen, your 'happy face' pansies are just lovely!! I need to go to the city to get some.
Winds have been horrible here north of you, too, and we dropped down to 15* last night. Quite a cool but not so windy day today. At least the module covers stayed on.
All the flowers except a few hardy petunias that were in sheltered places are done, but am afraid last night got them too. Hope we get some rain/snow pretty soon.
Blessings!
I love the planters! How creative. Most everything here has been bit by the frost and cold.
I really do like these globes as planters; the small one with the pansy is beautiful!
We'll have a killing frost tonight, but it hasn't been too long since I had a pink daylily in bloom.
Gertrude is such a faithful and well dressed gal. I love the pansies and those gorgeous fixtures for containers!
My knockout roses and lavender are still blooming after several frosts - go figure, but we've lost most all the other flowers.
Have a great week!
How clever you are! I would have never thought of using glass globes for planters like that, but they are absolutely beautiful! I guess I know what I will be prowling the thrift shops for...thanks for sharing!

Gertrude looks lovely in her new sweater! I love how you use the light globes for planters. They look so pretty. I love the cheerful faces of the pansies too!
Hello Kathleen

happy gardening.

WOW!! I love your display and use of old light globes. I remember these growing up in the light on the ceiling in bedrooms. What treasures. Even the smaller newer globes are fabulous. The drainage is built right in.
Your flowers are still lovely. Mine are doing well here in North Texas too. We had a cold snap last night, but all did well as I moved some up next to the bricks of the house to keep them warm and covered.
Love your ideas and I will look at globes with a new eye now.
Your pink globes are gorgeous.
Have a great day and thank you for stopping by again and your kind comment.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
What a great idea! I have some old light fixtures that I was just going to give to GW but now i am going to use them. Thanks for sharing!

A very good idea to use light fixtures for planters. We have a few of those old ones that are original to our house.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'll be bookmarking yours to read more:)

Gertrude is so cute, like her sweater. I also love pansies but have been busy painting the dining room and no time to work outside, but I finished before the holidays. We do have a couple of roses still blooming and so happy to see them. Hugs...Lu

Gertrude looks like she will be staying warm with her new sweater, Kathleen!
Things around here have turned brown... we've had several killing frosts.
Ah, pretty soon Gretrude will need a hat also ;-) I love your flower "pots", Kathleen! Very pretty!
I never would have thought of using light globes as planters. Gertrude is looking good and doing a great job in the garden. :) Have a wonderful day. Tammy
Kathleen, I always enjoy seeing how your re-purpose the light fixtures. We still have some blooms in our yard, but no pansies in the collection.
I love that poem! And the dog pic is so cute! Hey, like that sweater on your scarecrow! And of course, your globes are all wonderful!
I think Gertrude has a nice doo to go along with her new sweater. Nice planter. I never thought about using them like that. Alas, all of our flowers are gone for this year. No need for tears, spring will be here in about 7 months. Bahhahahahaha. Much Love and enjoy your flowers.
