The past week, I have had some visitors.........

one visitor I have missed for such a long time since he flew from our nest..........came home on leave
our youngest son.............. it was such a sweet time and the days flew by too quickly, and now he has gone back to his busy life

one day a group of lovely ladies..........all sisters, one from Texas, two from Indiana, and one from Arkansas came to visit..........one has been my friend for years, now the others, her sisters ,are now my new friends...........I feel very blessed!

and one visitor, I thought I would love to visit, has played such havoc on the peacefulness here on the grounds...........actually the pond.

Every year , at this time, I look forward to hearing the call and the arrival of the hundreds of  Sand Hill Cranes as they  fly over and into the surrounding fields. They have never been a problem, until this week. For some reason, this crane is all by itself and has discovered my pond of goldfish.

I had 16 large fish, one was a beautiful pale yellow.........it was eaten by the crane along with 3 others. Now I only have 12 fish. I have screamed, yelled, did a dance to scare it off........it came back. We have tied things to the trees, and have done everything else we have read to do.............Now our pond looks like this. Full of  PVC pipe for the fish to hide in, and lots of fencing and wire on top of the pond to keep the crane out.  Right when I think I have a hand on one kind of predator..........another pops up........sigh
How about you?
Any wonderful visitors coming your way??
Any unwelcome vistors destroying your peace??
I would love to hear!

Good morning Kathleen, nice to read about the happy visits from your son and others. But sorry to read about the vey unwelcome visitor feasting on the pond fish. Our neighbor had a similar problem with a great blue heron. She eventually gave the remaining koi away and drained the filled in the pond. Hopefully, you will be able to discourage your intruder and be able to enjoy the fish again.

Oh, no, I am so sorry about your fish! But so happy for your other visitors, especially the son. What a joy I'm sure it was to feast your eyes on his physical presence and give him all the little loving things that can only be done in person!

Awww, that is so sad about the goldfish, Kathleen. We have hawks and foxes to worry about, at least for the chickens; and we have seen a couple of coyotes and that worries me for the sheep. I know predators have to eat, too... I just wish they would eat somewhere else!
So good to hear your son was back home for a while!

Hi there! I'm glad you had a nice visit with your son and the sisters. Both our daughters are married so I know how children are missed by their mamas.

What a naughty crane that was! I love birds as long as they eat the right things. We have problem with hawks eating our chickens.

Have a wonderful week!

So happy you had a few days with your son and know how proud you must be of him.

My pests are dogs! Dropped off dogs! and deer. So,I also have wire over my flower beds. It makes them look tacky, but what else can I do?

The first thing I want to say is, Thank you for following my little blog. I am delighted and looking forward to becoming good blogging friends.

Congratulations on having your son home for a visit. I was raised the youngest in a family with two older brothers who both made the military their careers. It was wonderful when they would come home to visit. I am sure you had a glorious time with your son.

Have a lovely week and thank you again for becoming a follower.
Your blogging sister, Connie :)

I love your darling blog header with it's cheery quilt, bib overalls and country charm.
That old pesky bird should have a case of heartburn for stealing your fish, don't you think?
Thank you for visiting my blog and for your kind comment.
I hope you have a marvelous day.
Blessings,
Carolynn

Sorry about your goldfish..I hate when a loved animal on our place becomes food for another animal. Sigh!

Kathleen, it is so nice to hear about the visit from your son and from your friends. I'm sure that time spent was very precious to you and went by all too quickly.

Sorry to hear about the crane eating your fish. :( It sounds like you are doing all you can to protect them. I hope the crane gets discouraged soon and moves on.

Glad your son came home for a visit! I'm also glad you saw other friends. And as for the crane...he's a neat visitor but you had to protect those goldfish! :-) Hope you had a very nice halloween!
