I love driving the back roads while heading to some destination

I am always looking..............for old abandoned houses............
wild critters that look back at me in as much amazement.........
and

for wildflowers............or fields of sunflowers. The photo does not show just how beautiful this scene really was. When first driving up..........all one can see is a sea of bright, vibrant, yellow.
(click on photo for a better view)

I walked out into the field to take a few photos and had to smile as I looked down to see other footprints in the sand, from those before me who were also inspired.

All I kept thinking as I looked upon these acres of yellow heads turning up to the sun, was that I should be using my acreage in the same way.
I would have the happiest bunch of wild birds come harvest time if I did.

Instead, I grow on a smaller scale, allowing the wild prairie sunflower to choose it's growing space......

enjoying the wild creatures that come to visit the garden because of them.

I planted a fall harvest mix this year as well........
their vibrant colors inspiring me to get creative with my embroidery and to look forward to fall time.
How about you?
What are the fields around you growing and showing?
I would love to hear!

Sure understand this post, as I did the same thing yesterday, drove through the growing fields, and besides acres and acres of grapevines, saw the vegetable stands going up, and tomatoes and squash starting to come up for sale on the roadsides. I've got wild berries at the side of my house, plenty this year , enough too make pies!
Lots of wild nasturtiums too, which are good in salads. Lots of buckwheat too, which is so pretty in vases and lasts for months.

Beautiful photos ! Well as of now the fields are desperate for rain as is all the farmers crops , some have perished already and it's a shame . We are to be getting rain after a month of drought on Thursday I hope its enough for all the grass what crops are left and our gardens . Have a good day !

I have always liked sunflowers, even the ditch side ones...nothing says happiness like dandelions and sunflowers. I like Chicory also.

Oh, I enjoyed the walk through the sunflower field! I don't think I've ever seen a field full of sunflowers before, we have fields of cotton planted down here!
Your blog name reminded me the other day, I gave Alyssa some eggs to carry home in her dresstail, and one of them broke. She was sure mad with me! :)
Blessings, Dorothy

Well I wish we had fields of something around us but living in the city does not allow this. I have always liked sunflowers, thank you so much for taking these pictures for us. They are so beautiful. Smiles, Lu

These pictures are amazing, Kathleen! What is it about sunflowers that makes you smile...
Did you see any honeybees on them? We put out some sunflowers last year and they kept the bees busy.

Those sunflowers are sure pretty Kathleen - all the varieties, and at this time of year in Texas, fall sounds wonderful, doesn't it?

I drive on the back roads too. When my sister visits we like to go out and get lost!
Do you suppose these people are going to sell sunflower weeds?--or maybe just sell the sunflowers to florists?
I looooove your front porch, by the way. It looks cozy and inviting.

Nice to see these sunflowers, Kathleen, and they DO always seem to bring out smiles in everyone. The fields aroun us are growing corn and soybeans now, but like so many other parts of the US in need of rain.

Oh how wonderful! There is nothing more glorious than a sunflower! This scene reminds me of when we went to Apple Annie's last year and they had an entire field of sunflowers, as well as an entire field of pumpkins, and both just took your breath away!
