I started letting my chickens
out of their yard and now allow them to roam freely across the grounds.
It is such a risk since we have coyotes near. I just make sure I keep a good watch on them throughout the day.
They are so happy. I think they have discovered every little nook there is in and around the farm house.
It took some of the other critters by surprise however. Salem did not know what to think when he came upon Tex in the backyard. However, now that a few days have passed, everyone is used to seeing each other. I love to see chickens walking around in the yard!
How about you?

This brings back childhood memories of our chickens leisurely roaming the place. Then we had to find nests where hens laid their eggs! I can still remember the soft sweet little chicks, too!
I DO love that, Kathleen! I can only let ours out for short bursts right now, but hopefully the grass will take hold and prosper. Then I can let them out for longer periods of time. They do so love to explore.
brings back memories for me to from our hobby farm I grew up on. our chickens were always roaming about and would always return to their coop at night ans we would find eggs in there every morning ! The things that went on with the animals on this farm was so funny. My mum and I would resite comedy skits every day as the animals played it was a hoot! I really miss the hobby farm ! Great post and photos ! Have a good day !
Oh! The look at Salem's face is priceless. Like, who are you and what are you doing here? :) Lots of folks here have chickens but no place for them to roost. I really hate seeing them in the street eating garbage. Makes me wonder if their owners are raising them as pets or to eat. Either way, they aren't really taking care of them if they are running up and down the neighborhood. Yours certainly have a happy place to live, as long as no coyotes come their way. Have a great week. Tammy
I also remember hens in the yard, all around the house, and stepping in ~~ between our toes. Then we'd find a bitterweed to put our toes around, and pull up our foot to clean them. Nasty! I know! Also, Mama could never have flowers in the yard because of the chickens and cows.
So cute and yes they make a house a home. love,Diana
always love to see your chickens - we are thinking of getting a few
Have decided newest bunch of cluckers will have to be penned or in a chicken tractor (oh honey - I forgot to put build a chicken tractor on your to do list) - too many predatory cats in our new area - but they do look so homey scratching up flower beds and being chickenish all over a country yard!
They do look happy roaming about. :-)
I love that too. Nothing more satisfying than watching them explore and happily scratch and peck : )
Since I grew up with chickens running free-range this looks right to me. I remember one old hen that kept flying over the fence to get into the garden, so my mother trimmed her wing feathers...end of problem.
I agree! I love having them roam around freely! Do you have any trouble getting to them to go back to roost at night in the pen?
What pretty chickens! I love seeing them peck around too! They are so fun to watch. The only thing I don't like is when they poop on my porch, lol! I haven't lost many chickens in the daytime and they roost inside at night.
Hello Kathleen,
Oh that last photo is priceless. You will have less bugs in the yard now.
Happy days.

Happy Wednesday~~ Well the chickens look very happy and truly in their element I think. Salem looks happy to join in the strutting fun. What a great sight to look out over the grounds and see. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
p.s. thank you for entering my giveaway. Good Luck!
I do too. They will make a mess of your garden (eating the good stuff first) and digging up your flowerbeds to take a beauty bath, but it's worth it.
