Kathleen, I'm thinking about getting some hens that just started laying or point-of-lay pullets. I'm getting so anxious to get some hens and I don't know if I wanna wait til spring to get chicks. My dad and husband are going to build me a coop and run. Do your hens free range? This is all going to be new to me. I was wondering, too, if your hens stay warm enough in the winter. I've heard that it's harder to cool them off than keep them warm. Well, I'm sure I'll find all this stuff out!
You have a wonderful day. I love seeing pics of your hens - keep us posted on if her eggs hatch!
I think chicks will be hatched whenever God and the broody hen say they'll be hatched! Would be nice - then you can have laying hens by spring. I really wanted to order last bunch of chicks from McMurray (last date for kind I wanted was November 15) but won't have new coop set up by then - darn!
You know, I have chicks being hatched out right now by their mamas, and also 25 chicks being newly hatched and raised ,first time ever this late in the year. Makes me ponder...
Mamas world-wide though have a deep abiding desire to tend to young of their own and the time of year is of no concern when it comes to matters of the heart ( and instinct), raising the young of our womb and seed is all-encompassing.
Isabella sure is a pretty hen. That sure is a cute photo of her. I guess we'll have to wait and see what's up with her. I enjoyed the photo of your hen.
Aww..cute little hen! Wish I had three chickens! Used to have a pet rooster, back in Texas, and now I want three laying hens, but alas, the landlord said no....maybe I can wear him down! :-)
Isabella is so pretty! One of my hens tried to hatch eggs in the winter one time, but it didn't work for her. Not sure if she sat on them enough to keep them as warm as they needed to be?

Maybe Isabella knows something we don't? ;)

It does seem a little late in the year for babies doesn't it. Will you have a way to keep them warm inside the coop?

Do they have chicken contraceptives? Otherwise, you just might be a grandma. Better start knitting some little blankets.
Kathleen, please do keep us all posted on Isabella's offspring. She is a good looking mother hen.
Oh sure....she wanted to give you a Christmas present!
