Meeting Neighbors

Years ago, when we lived in town, I got to meet our neighbors by one small knock on our back door........upon opening,................seeing a small child and being asked if "my kid" could come out to play. It wouldn't be long during play times , that their parents, our neighbors, would come over and introduce themselves. Since moving out to the country................where neighbors and visitors are scarce.........things have changed................

this is the most common way...........I have met all of my "distant neighbors" ..................from way down the road............over the fields............through the woods...............through their beloved dogs. This is Diesel(above photo)...........he has been over...........off and on..........for the past several weeks. I have shooed him, yelled, thrown rocks, chased him with a broom, and have done the strangest things that would chase even the meanest bobcat away.............but no.........not him. He's delighted in my behaviour and jumps around and all over me in tail wagging glee. I have carted him off in the back of the pick up several times, depositing him around other farms.......hoping he might belong there.............only to find him at my back door.............excited to see me.........in few days. Yet, I have to admit...........he is a big sweetie. This time he showed up with a phone number written on his tag, in which I called and got to meet my neighbors who live on a cattle ranch a little ways from here. Although there have been several sets of dogs that have run through here way before I had Sophie............I need to get Sophie spayed. This would probably cure Diesel's problem................and mine. And as for Sophie?..................well

Her eyes say it all!

Oh How I've missed you. You are so refreshing and your blog takes me home each time you talk of the farm life. One doesn't have to know you to know - you love your little piece of earth.

I will send you an E - hoping you will take time soon to fill me in on the children.

Blessings!
Doris

Yes ma'am - I'm thinkin Miss Sophie needs to take a trip to see the vet unless you want Sophie/Diesel pups! He is very cute and I can imagine that tail going 90 MPH in every direction!

We visited in the country once for a Memorial Day cook-out and there was a little ugly dog there...her name was Ugly Betty after the tv show and boy did she fit the part...LOL! She fell in love with Hubby and me and jumped in the car when we opened the door...like "come on let's go"...had to get her out and watch her leave down a neighboring lane, on her way to her home.

But, I know from experience dogs can be a pain...especially if they like to pull your fresh wash from the line, or dig in your flower beds...grrrr!

Oh my! Little baby Diesels! Maybe Sophie should consider an appt. with the Vet! Hope you are having a great week.

He's a beautiful dog, looks like a boxer, they are such good dogs. And why wouldn't he come to visit...you have a cute girl there and you play with him and he gets to go for rides in your truck...smart dog! LOl Come say hi :D

Aww....a sweet visitor! Sadly, I think he has ulterior motives!

Aahh! Diesel is so cute!! I think Sophie likes him.
Re: your comment on my 'Blue Skies' post. I grew up listening to Jim Reeves and all those great oldies. My mom was a lover of all kinds of music, there was always music of somekind playing in our home.

Spay soon - then Diesel can come around without leaving a lifetime of reminders! You know if adorable Sophie had babies it would be so hard to give any up! We have an occasional canine visitor - he is not welcomed by our dogs or us - he loves to "mark" our front porch railings! aargh! Life in the country always has interesting visitors!

Oh, poor Sophie! And you know she'd probably like a new friend. Maybe after the spaying they can play.

Yes, I think a little surgery might take care of the problem- also overpopulation of homeless pets. I'm adopting one this coming weekend and I am so excited! Maybe Sophie and Diesel can just be friends! lol

Sophie looks like she's so humble!
Yes, get her spade. She'll be so happy and you'll be happy not to have to worry about her!
Diesel would have scared me into the house if I'd seen him coming.
We had an English Mastiff for 12 years that weighed 200 pounds. My friends think it's funny that I'm afraid of dogs after having her. But she didn't bite! Have a good week, and be sure to get a really good vet to take care of that!

What a handsome visitor, and from a cattle ranch no less, my Sophie must surely be flattered with such attention.

What a sweet fella! You are lucky that he is friendly.

Definately get Sophie spayed or Deisel may not be the only visitor. You could find a yard full of them one morning!

I'd say get her fixed, they never look very comfortable when they are in heat, and it would save you the hassle.

Oh, squeals, It's a boxer! We have had boxers ourselves over the years. They are wonderful and loyal family pets. Look at him, he is so proud of himself, and looks like he is proud of the friend he found.

Cute...

Poor Miss Sophie, but a pack of puppies would be just way to much work. Fun comes in other packages.

Oh Diesel is so cute although he should be fixed too. I hate it when a playful cute stray dog stops by. I always want to keep them but know better.

Aww... I love the look in Sophie's eyes!!

We had the same visiting problem here recently. Except they came to visit a stray kitten that I thought was a male. They are tricky little buggers!!
