The Drive

Today is Friday...................for some that is great news because it's the end of a long week of work.....................for me................I'm not too excited................I have to go into town to run errands. My dream...............my heart's desire.............my goal................is to go to town.............just once a month, something I have not yet perfected. I might look forward to going to town each week, if the town had a Starbucks and a Hobby Lobby...............but no.............only two major grocery stores...........a handful of dollar stores, and a string of fast food chains.............. and dirty sidewalks................not much to pull at my heart strings. One thing I do enjoy, however................is the drive.............
on the way to town. There are hardly any trees...........just flat plains and fields with cotton or hay. One particular hay field is playing host to a large group of Sand Hill Cranes that come this way, for the winter, every year. If you look close at the photo, you can see them all flying and there is a group by the hay bale. I love to watch these large birds and I always look for them in this field.
This is also cattle country. The large area these cows are on, is already an emerald green..............possibly alfalfa.

This field of green and cattle stretches for miles, all the way to the interstate. Once in a while, I might get to see a deer or coyote run across. It is always wonderful to see the colors of a storm forming in the distance as well. How about you?

Do you like to go to town every week?...........or have you got it worked out to only go once in a while?
Do you drive a distance to get back and forth? What do you see? Do you have mountains and trees...........or..........do you have flat land to look across? I would love to hear!

Hi Kathleen - that's some purty countryside you drive thru there. I like the black cows and green grass.

No, I'm bad about stopping by the store on the way home from work 2-3 times a week to pick up one or two items. Perhaps when I can retire from working in a year or so, I'll be more apt to stay home. That's ALL I want to do right now is stay home. Our town is growing by leaps & bounds. I hate it. I love small towns and I cannot wait to move out to the farm permanently!

Have a wonderful weekend, and when you go to town Saturday, I hope you see some really neat stuff that'll make you almost glad you went! haha!

Nice pictures! My drive into work (3 days a week) is mostly countryside - fields, cattle, barns, a few houses, a few rolling hills. It's not a bad view. I'd just rather not see it quite so often ;-) -Tammy

I live in Houston. Big. But, I'd still rather stay at home most of the time. If I had your views, I might be more willing to get out. :)

Hi Kathleen, actually I just got back from running my daughter to our little town to pick up her car from the repair shop. I waited about 20 min for them to complete the ppw so she could be on her way. Meanwhile, I got more antsy by the moment. I don't like feeling this way but I abhor going to our litle town. It is much like you described and I almost feel choked by the environment when I am there. The "going" isn't bad, pretty drive and all, but the town itself is so depressing. Glad I live out in the country ....

I don't like to go to town. It's too far a drive. We live into the mountain. The town is in the valley. Most of the time in winter we are stuck with snow. Can't go anywhere.

That is a nice drive. Town for me is only 5 min away, unless I go to 'town' where the wallyworld and mall are and it's jsut about 25 min. not near as pretty a drive as you have. Well, maybe if you're looking at the mountains.

I remember the vast flat country of west Texas. I can remember seeing large oil storage tanks with pictures of Pegasus on them?
I live in town now and I'm close to everything. We go ride in the country to get AWAY from towns!

What beautiful scenery you have; it looks so peaceful.
The ride to town for me is only about 10 minutes and I usually try to limit my trips to once/week. Mostly, I drive thru residential neighborhoods but there is one stretch where I can see the mountains of north GA and it is so pretty. I can't wait to see the varying shades of green in the trees when Spring arrives. I hope you have a nice weekend Kathleen.

Beautiful! When Terry and I take trips we NEVER go on the interstate, but take the side roads just to see the farms, the crops and what animals are there. We love it. I hate going to town, all towns look alike, nothing new and exciting and LIVING. I go to town daily, for work. But when I go home...I get to see the farms again.

Town is just 10 minutes away for me--I live in central Arkansas in a semi rural area on 8.5 acres. I love the drive in --it's rather hilly in our area and in the spring and summer (my favorite is summer) I love the green everywhere, the lush trees, flowers, gardens. I also love it in the early autumn when the leaves begin to change. The road that leads me to town is a hilly, winding road, and I love to watch the seasons change here. It is also beautiful in winter when it snows (treacherous too), but this time of year it is just BLEAK and DREARY! I am just waiting for the green of spring!

I loved seeing the view when you go to town, Kathleen. Very pretty! Well, as you know, I am already in town, but I usually go to the grocery store just once a week if I can help it.

That is some gorgeous scenery! You have a pretty drive! We only live a few miles from town, but it's a town of less than 2000. To get to real stores we have to drive 30 minutes to an hour. I kinda miss Hobby Lobby too!

What a lovely drive. Argh, town! I have many starbucks to choose from and lovely department stores, Trader Joes, zillions of thrift stores, my garden wholesaler, tea shops, Petcos, feed stores, yummy delights every where I turn and I would still prefer not to have to go each week, but it continues to be that way. I really would like to whittle it to at least only twice month, but there are people there too that I like to see, like daughters and sons and friends. So I drive, weekly, and I usually watch the mountain follow me into town and then race me home, he always wins and in sitting in my driveway when I get home.

Do you know, I have often thought the same...too bad I have to go to town so frequently! I would love to perfect the ability to only have to go to town once every 2 weeks, but for some reason I never have enough feed for the animals or coffee stocked up, and coffee is the TRUE weakness. Plus, some town errands cannot be forestalled, yet!

Beautiful open country Kathleen!

AS for your question, yes, my drives are chock full of beauty. Unless there is a lot of cloud cover we always appreciate seeing "our mountain", Mt. Rainier, and there are always the forests of tall evergreen trees, and fields of lush grass and horses, cattle, wildflowers. So yes, it is very beautiful around here in every sense of the word. Driving is often a pleasure unless we have to drive to Seattle, then ..oh well, that is another story. Blessings to you too Kathleen and a wonderful weekend in your neck of the country.

Life is in the burbs of Atlanta for me. I'm 5 min from major stores so shopping is not a problem. I still would rather be at home.I'm a major homebody.

I live only a mile from town, but I pass flowing creeks in winter, deer, joggers, oak and digger pine trees, country homes. Even town is nice with 1600 people. Because I get mail at my post office box I go into town everyday. Seems I need to go to the store too. As for the postcards I also collect the greeting, holiday cards.

Hello Kathleen,

I love the sand hill cranes..they are such beautiful birds....but I'm a nut for birds!! I put out nuts and seeds everyday to see all the different birds that will visit me everyday or the migratory ones that are just passing through for a quick meal.

There were many reasons for wanting to live in my home state of Tennessee again....a combination of things led me to these Smoky Mountains. :0) The people, the mountains, the 4 seasons, the beautiful national park, the excitement on the tourist faces, the shopping...

And the best part is that I live in the wilderness on a mountain ridge but I'm only fifteen minutes from all the great shopping and entertainment I could imagine....starbucks, books a million, tuesday morning,a super huge scrapbooking store, 3 quilting shops......Pigeon
Forge is known for all of its name brand outlet malls...more, more, more..this area is a mecca for shopping and entertainment due to the popularity of the national park and the tourism.

Sorry for *gushing* so much :0)...we did a lot of planning for this final move and I do believe I've found the best of both worlds. :0)

Now....for how often I go anywhere..LOL I am a homebody! Love, love being at home...just no better place as I think you agree on this.

Sometimes I go into town weekly...sometimes it's two weeks or longer may pass before I go anywhere. I must admit I usually save up a days worth of stuff to do and then head out. Now that Thomas is home full time I know once Springtime arrives we will make day trips to the higher elevations in the mountains. We adore the wildlife and I love taking photos of everything that moves. :0)

So there you have it....can you tell I love where I am?? :0)

Thanks so much for coming over for a visit..I truly treasure our friendship.

♥ Love & Faerie Dust ♥

We live in a high mountain valley with a little grocery stored that was started years ago by my father in law. When I want to go to town, I travel about 50 minutes over a huge mountain range where I see tons of deer and elk and eagles, and lakes..it's very beautiful. I just turn up the music and go! Come say hi :D

Cooee from "Downunder", lovely post and photos. Very interesting to see where other bloggers live.
I live in the countryside and have a 20 minute drive into the nearest major town. This route takes me through farming (cattle) areas with hills, mountains and creeks. Quite a lot of trees and bush around the place and at the moment it's particularly green for this time of year, which is a nice change.
I don't like going in to town, but when I do go I always make sure there is either coffee or lunch involved and a mooch through an op shop or two!!
Drop by my blog sometime and you will see some photos from my corner of the globe. Lovely visiting, I will be back.
