A Cold Damp Day

The woods are wet and cold. The trees are wearing their diamond shaped earrings made from the raindrops.
I love the woods when it rains. Even though at this time it is tired and almost bare of color, there is still so much color to be found......
the moss on the trees show up in their lovely hues of lime green

and blue greenish gray.

The bushes are showing off their colorful berries, attracting many birds to our door.

Color seems to be everywhere.....if you look for it. {:

The chickens don't seem to mind the cold, damp weather.....they are tromping around in the mud and crooning their daily song.....they are such tough little ladies.

Sophie comes in with me and settles into her favorite place by the fire to warm her soggy feet.

I kiss Salem on the nose, waking him from his deep slumber.......
"wake me up when it's warmer" he seems to say...and goes back to sleep.

I'm off to the kitchen to check my pantry for baking supplies. I plan to make peppermint bark with an assortment of cookies to send to loved ones across the miles this holiday. This candy is so easy make and wonderful to ship in pretty containers. And is has such a wonderful flavor. The recipe is posted on my cooking blog if you would like to try it. Just click on this link.
How about you? Do you like rainy days, hot sunny days, or snowy blowy days? What kind of Christmas goodies do you like to make? I would love to hear!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such sweet words on my blog. I love the pictures of the moss...funny how when you photograph something out of context it can be so pretty.

Hi Kathleen! Nice to see you! I loved your photos of the moss, too. The colors are so rich. As an artist, I have a little piece of cardboard with a hole in it. If I hold it up in front of the trees a few feet, look through the hole and separate the colors one by one, you'd be surprised how many different colors there actually are!

I have some Christmas munchies that you might like to try - Puppy Chow and Pidgeon Poop. You might have heard from them before, but my grown kids love them and demand them at Christmas.

Ingredients:
5 cups of peanut butter crunch cereal
3 cups of Rice Krispies
2 cups of skinny pretzels/broken in half
2 lbs. of white chocolate
2 1/2 cups mini marshmallows

Preparation:
Mix all dry ingredients in large bowl. Melt white chocolate in double boiler or microwave oven. Pour melted chocolate over the dry ingredients and spread out on wax paper to cool. Break into chunks

You can also add a few chocolate chips right at the end (so they won't get too melted - however, it makes it look like real bird poop with some choc. swirls in it!)

Puppy Chow -
1 box of Rice Chex or Crispix
1 stick butter or m argerine
1 c. Peanut butter
1 12 oz. bag chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla (optional)

3 c powdered sugar divided into two sacks or large ziplock bags.

Melt butter, PR and chips (& vanilla) in an extra large bowl in microwave until melted well. Pour in cereal and stir gently till all coated. Divide between the two bags and shake until well coated with powdered sugar.

We like it best in the freezer! I think they would both travel well with your peppermint bark - which by the way looks wonderful and beautiful and Christmasy!

Bet you didn't know you were going to get all today!

Oh - the first recipe was for the Pidgeon Poop - I forgot that...

On the PR in the last recipe, I meant PB - peanut butter.

Man, I need to proof my posts before I post them today!

I'm not fond of bitter cold and nasty sharp wind. SHIVER!

I'm more like Sophie...laying by the fire. Oh, yes. I don't get to do that but I like to think about it.

Such pretty photos you have shared today. Today in GA we are having lots of rain and it's fairly cold. It's been a good day to stay inside with the pets cuddled up closeby. Mama always made "snowballs" cookies for the holidays (like Mexican wedding cookies).

I'm not looking forward to cold weather! Or rather the ice that cold weather brings.

It's funny how chickens don't seem to mind the cold. It's amazing how quickly ours grew their winter-feathers!!

Love the diamond shaped earrings. It's about 10 degrees and snowy here now. I will say in my old age I prefer warmer.
I may make pizzelles. You use a hot press like a waffle iron. My Grandma use to make them.

I'm with Salem! Wake me up when it's summer. Ha! It has been cold and rainy here lately. I'm missing the sun. I hope you are having a good week, Kathleen. :)

The bark looks so christmasy and maybe on a plate with some of those little green colored cornflake wreaths with the red hots berries. Raining today in Michigan, but not a flake of snow in all of November.

You can find the beauty in anything! Great pics! I don't like the rain since my hubby can't work when it rains. It's been raining all day here and he may not be able to work tomorrow. Plus, it's bringing cold weather with the storm front. I only like cold, if it snows, lol!

I agree with you I love the diamond kisses on the wood in the rain. And every thing smells so good after the rain. I LOVE peppermint bark. My daughter and I were just planning on making some. Thanks for a beautiful post.

I love the photographs you share. We also have damp, cold and frosty weather but its pretty out now. I plan on walking around on our 2 acres and picking branches, berries to decorate the mantel. Tomorrow we will put up the outside lights and today I need to put my wreaths up. No tree for us, Casper the cat will play with it.
