Vintage Bottles

On my kitchen windowsill....
not so very high,
sits a collection of vintage bottles.....
A reminder of times gone by.
Kathleen

Now.....do you place bottles or something else on your windowsill?? Do you wonder what might have been in them or who owned them? I would love to hear!

Sitting in my windowsill are some old drink bottles, the collectible ones with the drink still in them. I also have some statues of cows, cats, and a tiny cup and saucer.

The clock one is really neat!

No bottles in my windows but chickens all over in my kitchen...I do have some old blue canning bottles that I'm sure used to be filled with the sweetest peaches! :D

On my windowsill sits a tiny canning jar with a wire bail, filled with old marbles, a tiny black wire art bees and flower candle holder, and little glass bottles with water plants in them (spider plants, philodendron, and violet leave starts)

I have a couple in my window. One I'm not sure is old but it is pretty, kinda orange in color. Think at one time it had wire wrapped around the top and beads on it. I sometimes stick little flowers on mine.

We often find old bottles when digging in the yard. I do wonder who they belonged to, how old, and what they held. Nothing prettier than a bunch of wildflowers in one of them in the windowsill. Have a lovely week.

My 11 year old son is the antique bottle collector around here. His first find was when he was only 5 years old. He found a small medicine bottle that said Dr. Pitcher's Tonic on the side. It was the light aqua glass with beautiful bubbles throughout the glass.
He had found it while playing in the creek at a friend's house.
He took it to share at kindergarten (very tightly wrapped in about 10 paper towels!). It made it the whole day, he came home, jumped out of the car, dropped his little Spiderman backpack and we heard the glass shatter. His heart was broken!!
He is now 11 and still searched antique shops for a replacement.

He does have a huge collection though! We have some on shelves in the kitchen, some on the antique buffet, and some in his room. I also think he has a box of them in the shop that has not been unpacked from our move a year ago!

it's a fun hobby!!

Funny you should mention them, yes, I have bottles on my kitchen window ledges. They are old medicine bottles, and I have some in our bathroom as well, above the mirrored cabinet.

My kitchen sills also have Polish pottery and candles. Things that bring me pleasure to look at as I work in my kitchen.

You have a lovely collection of vintage bottles. I enjoyed catching up on your posts. Your photos and writings are always a blessing. I am glad you and sweet Sophie are enjoying your autumn walks. I do hope we will get cooler weather here in Louisiana soon!

Hello Kathleen,

I do love to collect old bottles...in addition to the odds and ends ones I collect the Aqua colored Ball and Atlas canning jars with the zinc lids. I've got pint, quart and half gallon sizes. They look so pretty with everything from food to buttons in them. :0)

Thanks for dropping by for a visit..and to answer your question I don't depend on overhead lighting to provide excellent light. The fan fixture holds two 60 watt bulbs and I have switched my entire house over to the energy efficient bulbs.

Since I'm either reading, decoupaging or handsewing the Ott bulb screw in lights and Lowe's also sells another brand called *daylight* and I've used those too are the best to use in your lamps for tasks...but the ott lights are by far the superior bulb in my opinion..they provide that pure white light.

The overhead light supplements the lamps that I have scattered everywhere. I really like the dual fan in my studio..it has two 30 inch fans.

Now if I could multiply myself by a half dozen I could get everything in it place this week!! hehehe I am SO ready to sew something, anything!! I'm in withdrawal.

Have a wonderful day,
Stephanie

I have a few vintage pop bottles along with the purex and milk bottles, but it is the pop bottles that cause me to imagine the people, the weather, the work that was being done when the bottle was opened and the fizzy contents quenched a thirst.

Yes, I do - bottles and other things, too, in different windows. I love seeing these things and thinking on those who owned them before. Precious!

I'm sure each of your bottles has a great story! I like how different they are in their own way.

Hope you had a great summer! :)

On my windowsill sits my cat. How she manages to perch there is beyond me. Leaves a lot of hair behind so I always have to clean up after her (o: Oh well!

What a pretty windowsill! My eyes immediately go to the blue and brown ones, but upon further inspection those clear ones are pretty fascinating!

I have some turqoise Mason jars that I just love. Yep, I sure do wonder who canned in them and when and what - I imagine happy things like jellies, jams, peaches - YUM! They're in my little craft "closet" ....really wish that I had somewhere to display them like yours...

Blessings,
Julie
