The Potting Shed

This is a large size shed that sits in our back yard. It was once used as an office by the previous owners. It has been used for so much more since we have moved in. My first thought when I saw it was .....at last!.... an embroidery and antique shop in the making! I still have that plan later on down the road but for now,

it has been a "catch all" for everything that I have not wanted to get rid of, but don't use all of the time. Much like an attic where old things are stored.
I have various antique bottles, and vases stored on the shelves.

Some of the baby things of our life as a family, from our children's old crib to their high chairs. Also there is a closet full of the children's favorite toys they used to play with as well as our Christmas tree and ornaments. I have also used the shed as a shelter for my rabbit, Hercules, in the cold winter months,....... many baby chicks and ducklings have grown strong in here, and many mama cats have had their litters of kittens here as well. To say the least, this shed has been well used.

Even though I have a greenhouse and the plants are doing well, the weather is getting warmer, making the greenhouse too hot for young sprouts.

The shed has a large table, perfect for potting, and nice large windows, perfect for just enough light for sprouting. It is also warm enough at night and cool enough in the day to keeps plants healthy.

So I moved some of my greenhouse shelves into this shed and will see if I will be successful at sprouting things in here.

Of course, no shed or shop is complete without a kitty cat. This is Zelda, the shed's permanent resident. She does not get along with the other cats and is content to spend her life as a hermit in the shed. She has been here 6 years and will only allow me to pet and hold her. Now my question to you.......what do you have stored that you just can't seem to get rid of? Do you use an attic, an extra room... a large closet perhaps? I would love to hear!

I would dearly love to have a little room like this. I have a garage but it is not as fitting as this dear little place.

How blessed you are!

I have my attic right now, Kathleen. It's full of my children's favorite toys and my favorite baby clothes that I loved. I do (did) English smocking when they were little - boys and girls clothing. They had on new outfits nearly every Sunday. I loved it and I loved making all the little bubble suits and gowns and bonnets and button-on knickers, etc. My husband finally told me when #2 son Josh was almost 4 that I needed to stop dressing him like a baby and let him be a boy. :^( He still looks like a baby to me! I learned to do piping and lacework, etc., and incorporate it into their outfits. LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!! THat's what's in my attic!

I would love to have a nice little shed like that. Very nice. My entire house is full of junk I don't need...LOL!! We have so much stuff in our attic it is ridiculous. I tell my husband that pne day we are going to come home and our attic is going to be collapsed into our living areas!

For several years now, our garage has been overflowing. Now that Josh is moved out his old room is catching some of the overflow. I wish we had a better place to store things.

Looks like your shed has served you very well, Kathleen. I have books and toys my kids outgrew in the attic. I need to get that cleaned out sometime.

My house started to get to crammed with all of my thrifty finds that DH decided to have a 26 x 30 ft room built onto the back of our garage for my "Craft Room" needless to say it still has not been finished inside but in the meantime has become my storage shed full of all my crfaty things plus alot more such as Xmas items, tools, furniture, tons of lattice , well not really tons but almost. Now I need another storage shed so my Craft Room can be completed. LOL

Hugs :)

My son has a cat like Zelda. She stays in his room and never comes out and hates everyone but him.

I have a big closet off my bathroom where I keep most of my stuff. Things like holiday decorations and suitcases.

The shed you have sounds really useful!

I want your shed! Actually, I have 2 sheds. One is shelter for my sheep, the other is where I keep flower pots , empty cages , and brood ducklings and chicks. It has a dirt floor so I don't think it will ever look as cute as your shed.

Your shed is great! It will make a fantastic studio/shop! Lucky you!!!

Hi Kathleen, the joy of joys is to have ones own "space" and your shed looks delightful. I hope your dreams come true with what you want to do with it.
We live in a four bedroom house and I have three bedrooms for my craft projects..lol. My husband is a "neat freak" and constantly frowns at my crafty mess...but..that's life!
I try not to collect too many old things as I don't have the room but I have some old newspapers and magazines that I just can't bear to throw out and I don't really know why. One is a supplement from the Australian Womens Weekly when the Queen came to open our new Opera House in 1973 and most of the others are magazines which covered the visit by Princess Diana and Prince Charles which was a Royal Tour in 1985. These ageing papers and magazines, live in a basket in my study.
Kind Regards

What a nice shed you have! Out buildings are my favorite part of a farm! I do have a small building for making wreaths and flower arrangements. It's my play house!

My shed is my laundry house, a place for my extra freezer and fridge, some wine supplies, my propagation area, heat mat and lights and where I bring my over winter tenders to get a start, with a loft for storing banquet supplies, and a few little things. All in a hundred forty-four square feet. I have a little space in my attic in the house that is just a big enough crawl space for my holiday decorations. My sewing room holds more than it should for certain.

I love your potting shed.....that was going to be our summer project but since we are moving I guess it will have to wait. It is good to have a place to retreat to and be among the flowers.

Your shed is so organized. I can see you have lots of fun in there. Wanted to let you know I don't make the garden journals, I sell them at the store. Hugs, Rosemarie

Dear Kathleen,
I love your potting shed! It will make a wonderful antique and embroidery store, too! I would love to have a special place like that for my garden. It is wonderful you have all that room to start seeds... wonderful natural light as well!

Wow! What a wonderful space to have! That's awesome. Here in the city, we have a big deck, and I just work out there. In the country, I hope I'll eventually build a multi-use minibarn.

Kathleen,
Your room is a great place to store things. We store our stuff in the pump house. Our gardening supplies are kept there and we're getting ready to plant our vegetable garden. What a joy to raise a garden. I like your blogs very much.

I love that building! I see so many possibilities for you in there, Kathleen.... I think it would make a wonderful embroidery studio some day!
