A long, slow road to recovery

The vet called me last Friday to tell me that Salem was not doing well at all. I went to see him, and my heart just sank to see how very ill he was. He was in so much pain and so very sick, that I told the vet I did not want him to suffer any longer and to go ahead and put him down. However, the vet told me to give her one more day with him, to try something different, and if that did not work, she would put him down on Saturday. I got home late Friday afternoon, and was surprised for the vet to call and tell me that while she was working on Salem, she discovered a large clot in his urinary tract. They were able to somehow flush it out, place a catheter in him and the catheter was flowing well. So I had high hopes of bringing him home this Monday. However, here it is, late Tuesday and they are still keeping him. Hopefully, I will be able to bring him home tomorrow as the vet just called to say, he was using the bathroom on his own and he was eating and acting happy. I don't want to even discuss how much$$$$ it has cost, but hopefully, I will have him back. If I do get to bring him home, I have to watch him carefully over the next two weeks to make sure he doesn't have a setback. Thank you all so much for asking about him. Hopefully, tomorrow, I will have a picture of him, here at home with me!{:

We went through something similar with our Boots, he was in the vet hospital for 5 days...almost lost him...he went on to a happy life for over 6 more years.Sadly,we lost him early summer to kidney disease but I've never regretted spending the money. Hang in there!

When things like this happen it is so hard to know what to do. It does sound like Salem will get better!! We had a scare with our Simon but he did get better!! Hang in there...we will pray for the best outcome!!

It must be so difficult for you, Kathleen, to be waiting all this time and not knowing if he will recover. I'm sorry to hear he has continued to be so ill. I hope he will be able to come home tomorrow and is soon doing much better.

Kathleen, I'm so sorry Salem has been so ill. Cats seem to go down pretty fast. I'm glad the vet wanted to explore more to find what the problem was. Hopefully too, the vet will not ask for your first born for payment...some do, some don't...been there, done it at both ends over the years.

Thanks for visiting me....I just added the pictures of Miss Morgan in two new sweaters I've crocheted for her over the weekend.. Come visit again!

I'll be back to see how Salem is doing...

I'm happy he is doing a little better, Kathleen, but I know what you mean about the vet bill..(ugh) I too would take any of my animals to the vet no matter what the cost, but sadly it's so expensive!! I'm just glad they found out what was wrong in time. Give him a hug for me!!

I'll be thinking of you and Salem, and best wishes for it. What a sweet looking, gorgeous cat. It's hard to make decisions in instances like this. I know it's tough - we're thinking about you!

Thank you for the update - I know how dear your animals are to you and important to your life. Glad there is more the vet will do and maybe a payment plan? We were blessed recently when our doc instituted a senior citizen discount - at least there are SOME perks to getting old! (actually many - I was just being a smartypants)

I'm so glad your Salem is doing better. I used to have a black kitty that looked just like him. Sadly, she is gone. When it comes to our beloved pets, there's almost nothing $$$ that we wouldn't do for them. Looking forward to seeing a photo of him comfy again at home! Vickie

As usual, I enjoy your blog. I guess I had not heard the story about the pet. My husband and I have decided against a pet, (as much as we'd love to have a little dog) because we may have to choose medicine above medical attention for a pet. I couldn't stand to see one need help, and me not able to give it. Anyway, I love seeing your pictures of all the animals. I need to bring my little Preston (my future farmer) to your site soon. Keep up the good work.
