Next to our property is an area of land that is currently not being farmed. It used to have trees all over it until last year, then the farmer knocked them down. Since then it has been plowed and vacant. Even when it had trees, I discovered that there used to be a farmstead on this land. Pieces of glass and old cans were buried in the dirt.My sweetie once found an old tea kettle still in fairly good shape. Now that the land is being plowed up, the dirt gives up it's treasures, especially after it rains.
As soon as the rain is over and the ground is not so soggy, Sophie and I head out over to the pasture with a small garden spade and a pail.Sophie sniffs and searches for the latest rabbit nest or coyote visit, I scan the land in search of broken china. Such pretty treasures I have found! Nothing in value, at least to the average treasure hunter. But for me, I love the pretty pieces of broken glass and china that lies waiting for me.As I wash them all off and stick them in a jar I wonder who the woman was that owned this china,and how she must have been heartsick to have broken it.
I have found pieces with roses and gold leaf on them. Little handles that must have come from a tea cup. Jade colored dish ware, milk glass and beautiful thick pink glass that looks as if it might have been a bowl. 
I found this RC cola bottle yesterday in perfect condition. Does anyone remember RC cola? I remember looking underneath the lid and pulling away the cork to see if there was 5, 10, or 25 cents marked on the lid. 
I don't remember a star above the RC logo. I will have to go and research to see how old this bottle actually is. Do any of you remember RC cola? How much money did you win when you pulled the cork away? What are your treasures that you hold dear?

What great little finds! I love this idea. And they look so pretty displayed in the glass jar. I don't remember drinking RC Cola, so I'm not helpful there. But the bottle find is great!

My girls and I look for the exact same treasures you are finding. We look around old homesites and recently found an old garbage dump in the woods. We think each piece of china or bottle we find deserves to be in a museum. I remember RCs but I don't remember the cork. Just loved this post!!
Oh I love that you enjoy the things you find. Before my oldest got married and left our home she found where the past farmers burried their garbage. The site has given up many a brown purex bottle, cosmetic tins, the front doors to a wood cook stove and many more things. Back then they didn't produce the daily amount of trash we do, so many things are treasures. Can't imagine future generations thinking of a styrofoam teriyaki container as a treasure.
We also find things on our property - glass and I love a marble we found while digging up a trench for sprinkler system lines. I used to like RC cola - haven't had it in years and do not recall the cork thing at all. Your love of bits and pieces of lives lived before is endearing - we all leave evidence of our life whether in bits of glass or other people's hearts.
BTW - when I find a broken dish somehow I assume it was broken AFTER the original owner was gone - weird huh?
How neat is this?! I can only imagine the stories that your pieces would tell, or the history they contain. You'll have to let us know if you find out how old the RC bottle is!
Hi Kathleen, when I saw the pictures of your vintage treasures, one of the pieces looked very familiar to me..I will send you pictures ...I have an antique "Jelly Jar Holder" < is what I call it..you put jelly in it and it has it's own spoon on the side always available...the Rose Pattern looks the same..I've had it for at least 30 years. It's fun to find these little treasures and imagine their history. I enjoyed this.
Ever since we moved to our land last year, when it rains, our driveway unwashes things. We have found lots of pieces of china, some tools, broken bottles, bricks, and other stuff. It's cool you found something whole like that bottle!
I have very old canning jars we found under our previous home. The home was built in 1906 and the canning jars had the date on a label written in pencil, stating what was preserved in them.
My husband and his friends used to go to old dump sites and dig up various interesting old things. We have spatter ware, more old jars and bottles....I use many of the old jars to hold q-tips, cotton balls, disposable razors, etc.,, and I think they add just the right touch to our bathrooms.

Yes I remember RC cola, I quess this dates me, also I remember when they were 5 cents. I used to look for indian arrows after a rain in a fresh plowed field, lots of fun.
