Dish Size Sunflowers

This year, I planted several varieties of sunflower. I just love them all. They are such a hearty and cheery flower. One variety is the sunflower simply titled "Gigantic".
Gigantic it is. If I cut the head of this off, it would cover my dinner plate! It measures 7 inches across. It's petals are beautiful. A lot are going to seed now and already the little birds are lining up with their eye on each dying head. I have clipped a few heads to save seed for next year's plantings and will leave the rest for the ever hungry feathered friends that find their way back and forth to our grounds. What are your favorite flowers? I would love to hear!

I love msost any kind of flower. Oddly, tho, roses are not one of my favorites. I have a couple black eyed susans blooming now and a pretty red aster.

What a pretty sunflower....I like the plate too ! The sunflower does not look like the common sunflower...but I am no expert on them, they don't grow well here at our place. KathyB.

What a gorgeous sunflower. They are so cheery.

I have so many favorite flowers I don't know where to start. I love morning glories, peonies, daffodils, lilacs, and of course--daisies! Any flower is good in my book. :D

I love sunflowers. We didn't plant any this year, but maybe next year. I think my favorite flowers this year were probably my zinnias. They bloomed really pretty!

Your sunflowers are beautiful! I love the watch the birds go after the seed. They are so funny hanging upside down, competing for the best position!

I think my favorite flowers are hollyhocks...ever since I was a little girl & my grandma tought me to make hollyhock dolls!

I'm so fickle - I seem to love whatever is blooming! Always been a fan of roses and and go heart pitty pats over gardenias (remembering corsages of proms long ago!)
Lovely sunflowers - a friend in upstate New York posted this link to a HUGE sunflower maze near http://www.townofcamillus.com/default.aspx?PageID=964her -
enjoy!

Wow, those are gorgeous, Kathleen. Someone gave me seeds for some "dinner plate" sunflowers, but didn't get them out this year.
Do you think the seeds will be okay next year?
