Just a thought.......to slow down..........to ponder

Many of us have had the joy

of either receiving....or giving...... a bouquet of fresh flowers.  

To me......flowers just seem to say "hello, have a cheery day!"

and they are even more beautiful placed in a vintage vase.

But do you ponder on the meaning of the flower itself and the color?

The symbolic language of flowers has been recognized for centuries in many countries throughout Europe and Asia. For example, red roses mean "love" or " I love you"

For me.......I love any color and any kind of flower that anyone gives to me.  I never think of what the meaning might be when I am given a gift of beautiful blossoms.

When I pick out flowers for someone........I don't think of what the color means......

I think about what the favorite flower and the favorite color is of the person 

I am giving the flowers to. 

But it is a very interesting and wonderful history to read on this link about the

In a previous post, I asked if any of  you would know what the flowers could 

be that are growing in my greenhouse. 

I had many wonderful answers.........however, 

the flowers bloomed.........and I realized that they

are a flower that I know. 

They are "Stock" flower.........just like the ones that 

a dear friend ( Bell)  gave me years ago.  Why I did not 

recognize the leaves....surprises me.......but the second I saw the blooms

and then smelt the fragrance......I had my aw ha moment. These

are in a lavender color, where as Bell's are in a dark purple. 

And now it all makes sense as to why these flowers grew so strong and 

healthy during the summer without blooming and are now blooming in February..........

so representative of the Stock flower.  I will soon be transplanting 

these to the outside grounds. 

The daffodils under the back yard tree have sprouted up

and I am looking forward to their cheery yellow blossoms.

A little over 9" and still snowing

The latest winter storm, blew through our state late last night 

and snowed through the wee hours of morning. I am 

enjoying watching it still falling as I write this.

The trees and woods take on a whole new beauty when the snow 

is as deep as this.

However......pretty as it may be, it is not as 

welcome to Sophie.

She had to walk in my tracks behind me this morning

because the snow was so deep it went all the way up

to her belly........she was not happy about this at all.  

I would invite you to sit out with me with a cup of morning coffee

but the patio seats seem to be a bit occupied! 

This will all be gone in just one more day.  Temps will

rise back up into the 60s.  But for now.......

I am just going to enjoy this moment.

A pretty day to sit on the front porch

Most of the time, I find myself sitting out on the back

patio because of the welcoming morning sun.

But there are pretty winter days and afternoons

where the front porch is a haven.

The woods surround the viewing area from the side

and all around the front.  It is quiet and peaceful

today. 

A great place to read a book,  work a few stitches,

or to just sit in silence and enjoy.

On the front of the porch the Pyracantha

is full of orange/red berries

On the side of the porch, the Yaupon Holly is full 

of red berries. 

So.......everyone.......

"Come sit on the porch with me

the drinks are cold and

the friendship's free"

Happy New Year!

The past few mornings,

just before the sun completely shows itself,

the sky has been in the most beautiful color ever! 

It is always different, every day.........and it's 

beauty is more stunning as each day arrives

The weather and temps have been pleasant, dry, 

and warm.  Christmas day was close to 70

I have not yet had to use my greenhouse heater and 

the little tomato plant that I moved inside in  early fall

is still producing tomatoes.

I have had this potted flower, going on 4 years now. 

It blooms constantly and brightens up the greenhouse.

Once in a while, it seems to die down........but within

just a few weeks, it's green and back to blooming.

These are flowers that I dug up and moved to the safety of 

the greenhouse in early fall.  They still have not bloomed, 

but remain sturdy thick and green. Anyone know

what they might be?

Sophie stayed outside with me as I removed all of the

Christmas decorations.  I never like to leave Christmas things 

up  after Christmas.  I like it all packed away before the new 

year comes.

Taboo is enjoying his new bed.  He has been stealing Sophie's 

bed and taking long leisurely naps.........much to 

Sophie's dislike.  So now, he is content and feels special.

I hope this finds that you all had a happy Christmas day with

friends and family, and that you are filled with goals and hopes 

for the new year to come!
