and onto the grounds last night..........
yet, through it all, Gertrude, managed to hang onto her new fall wardrobe.............
even the flowers in her hat...........remain. At this time of year, she is guarding gardens that are starting to show their weariness of a long growing season.
The large very old Lantana, that began it's life from a cutting from my grandmothers bushes...........so many years ago........and adapted to being moved from the busy town bed......to the country bed I
transplanted it in when we first moved here.........also many years ago.
It is still in full pink and yellow blossom.
The Ocotillo , although it's leaves are fading ,is still giving just a few more blooms before it takes it's winter sleep.
Meanwhile, the large Pyracantha is full of orange berries
and the Yaupon Holly is full of red berries.
Adding color to the front porch.
Because of all of the rain and the warm temperature that we have been having, the Larkspur seed has already sprouted and have almost filled one of my flower beds.
The seeds usually lie quietly in late fall and do not sprout until spring........now I worry that these young plants might die when the ice and snow come. I might lay plastic over them to help them survive the winter.
The Mexican Petunia is also still in bloom and look so pretty this time of year
and the Morning Glory in front of my shop entrance delights everyone that stops in to visit.
While I am out visiting my gardens.........I am never in need of company.
Homer has made the farm "home" and follows me endlessly.
He has turned out to be such a sweet cat.
Sophie.........who will be 9 in just a few short weeks......still joins me on my walks.........but when the wind is cold and blowing......
she prefers to take a nap.
Taboo..........who has grown from kitten
to cat in such a short amount of time
waits for me at the back door.......eager to smell........."the outside"
on my jacket. I have not let Taboo outside ............
he wants to fight the other cat............
and the rattlesnakes have been so plentiful......
I don't want him to be injured.
He is such a good indoor companion to both Sophie and I.
So ...............tell me

Gertrude looks quite fetching! :D Your flowers all look so pretty. We have just a few blooms left here. Almost everything has gone. We have had a mild fall though. It has stayed warm much longer than usual. No snow yet, but we may get some this weekend. Your pets all look like good companions.
Glad Gertrude and her flower bedecked hat stayed put in the heavy winds.

Well, good old Gertrude! She's standing proud and tall, so cute.
You still have quite a lot of color in the yard. My Mexican petunia's still blooming also, and next year I plan to plant several more. I forget about lantana, and will try that next spring also.

Lantana, that takes me back to childhood on the farm, and the lovely perfume it had. Your wee Larkspur, will you put hoops in the ground, then plastic over them? Way down south, our daughter puts polythene piping hoops in the dirt, or nails them to wooden frames, then frost cloth, then polythene, to keep young plants growing if there is still frost and snow around. Lovely felines, yes, stay indoors and stay safe.
I love to see your pretty yard, and all your trees and flowers are so exotic to me-except the morning glory-which is very pretty. I really can't imagine worrying about rattlesnakes-I think you are very brave! I don't think I could ever relax!
Your garden is still so pretty! Here in Michigan lantana is just an annual, I wish I could get it to come back like yours.
We are having high winds and big rains. not too cold , just cold enough to need a fire in the woodstove to take the chill out of the air.
So many blooms for you even in late fall, lovely !
Now that Gertrude is one strong, Texas woman still standing guard over your pretty flowers! All blooming things are put to rest here.
I am well, just a bit blog weary and working on a few things which have been put aside much too long.
I do love seeing Gertrude's wardrobe change with the seasons. She is a diligent watch-lady! You've still got a lot growing, we do, too, but some of our plants we call by different names.
We have rain heading our way. I will hopefully stay nice an snug doing some crafts. Perhaps later I will enjoy a pot of tea. I love the whole ritual. Gertrude is one lovely lady... And that hat!!! Whoa...

It's so lovely.It has been raining non-stop over here and the farm is full of weeds.
