His favorite thing to do lately

is to sit and look out of the large window..... to watch
the newest visitors who come to eat feed
or to get a drink of cool water on such hot days.

Sometimes, they like to just lie down in the shady grass........

sometimes they come to fill their cheeks full of grain ....
running off to store it in their nests.....and then come back for more

but most..........are very thirsty.......and line up along the watering tray
enjoying a cool drink

how much he loves to watch.........his tails slaps back and forth and his mouth quivers, making his whiskers shake.

Today.......something bigger........and strange came to the watering tray.....
making everything else......leave..........

and making Taboo...........stand still......and stare..........

a raccoon......which never usually shows up until night just could not resist coming to tromp around in that cool water...........
he also decided he would check out the porch for food............

but this time..........he was greeted by Hobo.........who has now made this place his domain............
I was getting worried watching this............

but he looks up at me..........proud........as if to say.........
" I showed him!"

Also.........my work has been published! I quilt is  on page 8 of this lovely magazine

Taboo has a ringside seat to free entertainment. :) I would have been a little uneasy about the raccoon too. Congratulations on being published! That is exciting news--so wonderful! I'm so happy for you. You are so talented, and I'm glad to see that being recognized.

Congratulations! Having your guilt published; such an honor yet I'm not surprised. You do such lovely work.

I had to smile about the raccoon after having only seen two in my life, and those were in the outside garbage can at the place we moved from. Somehow, they had knocked over the can, crawled in, couldn't get out and scared the stuffing out of me both times. :)

It would be so much fun to sit on your porch and watch the multitude of critters!
Hobo looks so tough....

Hobo, you are one of the best, and great news of your quilt in publication. Let that wild critter stay away, but for inside fellas, great entertainment.

My cats can totally relate! They love to look out the sun porch windows at the birds and creatures that frequent the feeders. I have to admit, I think I spend as much time or more in my rocking chair, just watching.

Congratulations on being published! That is so exciting:) I would have been worried about the cat too, those coons can be dangerous. I'm glad Hobo is alright.

Good work, Kitty!! Back in the days when men hunted raccoons for their pelts, we didn't see them around the house, but now we have them in the barns and around the chicken houses. They can climb the ladders of the feed bins like a person.

Congratulations on being published!!

Thanks for dropping by my blog for a visit. I worry about my small dog in our backyard when raccoons are nearby because he chases them and one could easily turn around and hurt him. At least with Hobo standing his ground for the food the raccoon backed down and away obviously.
Congratulations on being published, I know what a good feeling it is. :-)

Congratulations of your being published! That is wonderful. Aren't you proud of Hobo! What a toughie, and Taboo is so like Dinah. She sits in the office window watching the birds outside, and her jaw quivers, too. She also makes a funny little noise. I've had the sprinkler going for a bit today, just to give the chickens a break from the heat. It's very dry here again, even after all the rain we had in the Spring.

I love to see the critters you have-it almost seems like a different country! (Except for the raccoons-we have 'em too) You are so kind to put water out for everyone. I love your cats!

We have given names to some of the raccoons that visit us regularly. There's Skinny Tail and Fat Mom-ma, Big Meany... The cats (not by their choice) share their dinner with them almost every day. I keep water out for the critters, too...lots of birds hang out around it these hot days, from morning 'til night.

Congratulations on being published!
