The rains have gone and the grounds are now ready

for tilling and the introduction of new plants.
This year, I decided to go "frugal" and I also want to experiment ......
by planting several varieties of flower seed rather than spending
$$ on nursery plants.

So far, every thing has started to sprout and I can't wait to plant them in my gardens.

The flower beds around the house and on the grounds  are full of color
from the Larkspur I planted last fall.

The vibrant and soft colors mix together and can be seen from a distance

and do so well at filling a large bed.

They are blooming everywhere.
Some of the trees along the grounds are also showing off their colors.

I really love container gardening and this year these Snap Dragons are vibrant.
I  purchased these last spring as a 6 pack set from a nursery. They grew and bloomed through last summer and spent this past winter in the greenhouse. And this year they are even more pretty.

Moss Rose is always plentiful here

And once again...........Mother Nature has surprised me with this wonderful flower growing wild on the grounds.

Research let me find out that it is a Basket Flower. It is very tall......
about 3 feet high and the flowers are large and soft.

Also growing on the grounds is what is called a Wild Orchid

and who can resist a large Dandelion?

To go with all of Mother Nature's  blossoms .....
are her whimsical creatures........

who capture my attention and then get placed out into the prairie .........
away from my flowers.

In the late afternoon sunset,
the peacefulness envelopes the woods, the prairie meadow, and the grounds of the house..........
and I sit still ..........observing it all........
.in solitude and quiet............
and in awe.

By this time I am hoping to find that mud and muck have left your grounds  and hopefully blue skies and flowers blooming.

Moss Rose, or was it Rose Moss? and the one before the dandelion, lovely, every one. Hope all those seeds germinate, and like the Larkspur, you will have glorious colour everywhere.

Your gardens are stunning! I love how you've planted the old fashioned garden plants that steal my heart. Snap dragons are one of my favorites. Larkspur is always plentiful in my families gardens, as it was with my mother. Love the special finds that nature provided! The perfect touch for a perfect yard!

Your grounds are so pretty. I grow moss rose here as an annual and the wild orchid is called something else here, but the name escapes me right now. I have them in purple and white. Your pics are lovely. Hugs, LJ

Beauty surrounds you! How wonderful. I always forget about larkspur, and stupid me didn't get any geraniums in the fall. The man at the nursery told me, though, that they bloom through fall, and after blooming, they're gone. Well, I'm not a landscaper but I have news for him; mine lasted through winter with a few bloom and now beautiful again. :)

So glad for you to have such a lovely, peaceful place to live.

xoxo

I love all of your flower and critter pictures. That basket flower is so nice, I've never heard of those before. It's a wonderful little world that you live in, Kathleen, and I always enjoy visiting it!

Everything looks so pretty. The huge wildflower is a stunner! Rose Moss is my hubs favorite summer flower. I too just do a couple containers, this year it's perennial ground covers I can spread out around the house. I don't have a green thumb, but I do fairly well just watering a few containers. Today the sun is shining and it's beginning to dry a little, but I do not look forward to blistering hot weather!

Hello Kathleen,

Growing by seeds is the way to go cost wise, plus it is fun watching them grow. The rain you recently had has certainly made your garden bloom. Interesting to see you have the same bugs as us here in Australia.

Happy days.
Bev.

Glad your world is drying out....the flowers all look lovely though you don't have a yield yet on anything you have planted. It looks peaceful there. Oh, and I meant to say before how adorable Taboo is! Just too cute!

I get so frustrated trying to grow anything here. I started out with high hopes that first spring and summer and actually had a decent yield of squash (vines fare better in the heat than most other things) and even grew one huge pumpkin, and some okra. But, I have yet to eat a tomato I grew in this sandy desert furnace we call home, and only a handful of beans or anything else. After the second summer was such a disaster, I gave up (for the most part) trying to be Farmer Marie...only I can never FULLY give up! :-) It is in my blood. So, I do have some tomato plants out there right now, and a few green tomatoes to give me hope. They are in shade more than half the day and I am hopeful. Should have planted a few other things too but it got too late (we are already at 109!) and now that will have to wait till spring. But, part of my frustration stems from the cost of buying the plants I lose, and the high water bills. It seems useless. I wish you the best with yours, and look forward to seeing your yield...both veggies and flowers!

I did the same thing this year. I planted seeds and am so happy with the plants I have to add to my flower beds and gardens.

Your gardens are lovely and I am always amazed at the abundance in your gardens knowing the hot & dry weather you usually have there. You definitely have a green thumb.
