Sometimes my chickens hide their eggs from me

and when I start wondering why there are no eggs in the nests, I start hunting and always find a pile like this.  Eggs are a precious commodity to me............I don't want to throw these away.......and
I don't want to make a 50 mile trip into town for a dozen of eggs.........so the question always is..............

how can you tell a good egg.........from a bad one??

I found a true method that always works.

Fresh eggs will sink to the bottom of the bowl and probably lie on their sides.
Slightly older eggs (about one week) will lie on the bottom but bob slightly.
If the egg balances on its smallest tip, with the large tip reaching for the top, it's probably close to three weeks old.
Eggs that float at the surface are bad and should not be consumed.

This way, I can always be certain that I have good eggs to use for my baking.

Speaking of baking..........I have a wonderful buttermilk biscuit recipe that makes tall and fluffy biscuits.
You can find this recipe on my cooking blog

That was quite a stash of eggs! At least you have a way of separating the good from the bad. Those biscuits look delicious!

Happy Valentine's Day, Kathleen!

I have some really good sausage thawing for tomorrow. We are in the Deep Freeze here. Some biscuits would be nice.

Didn't know that, but I don't have fresh eggs! My niece has chickens & it's such a disappointment to come home to flavorless store bought eggs!

Ha ha , I love the way you began this post ! My Silkies are notorious for hiding their eggs, they even steal them from each other, rolling them into their own private hiding places.

Eggs & biscuits are good for dinner anytime.

It's 9:45 pm, and now you've got me wanting some hot biscuits with real butter and my muscadine jelly! I love your green/blue eggs. I've only got one ameracauna left and she's 3 yrs old. Hasn't laid in 6-7 months and then only about 2-3 times a week. I hate the thought of culling her. They were my favorite birds.... oh well. I'm going to snag your biscuit recipe!

Some hens just don't like to lay eggs in chicken coop.I face the same problem. If I'm lucky, I would find the eggs but most of the time, the crows beat me.They have sharp eyes when it comes to hunting chicken eggs.
