I kissed his head and told him he was the prettiest bird ever............

for the last time.......
Today, Cookie,  this sweet little bird of 32 years .......that's right.......he's been with us since 1983..........
has died.
Monday morning I found him lying on his back in his cage. I scooped him up and wrapped him in a soft towel and made him comfortable in a box and fed him drops of water and baby food throughout the night hoping he would get stronger. He lived through the night........which gave me hope so I started seeking information and help yesterday......

After talking to 2 vets, who told me they do not handle "exotics" and could not help me, I found 2 bird rehabilitators and breeders . They were shocked to hear that this bird has lived so long. They have raised birds for over 20 years and have only seen them to be 8.  After hearing about how he was acting.......they told me he was shutting down and was preparing to die..

This morning, I placed him in an old tin and buried him underneath a stone in my garden path.
I have posted about this wonderful bird in our life a few years ago.
You can read his story by clicking onto this link
I am heart broken..........although I knew this day was going to come.......
bye, bye, sweet birdie.

So sad. We had a cockatiel that was the same coloring as yours. We called him Baxter. He passed away this summer and he was 22 years old.
That tells me our birds had a happy life!

I'm so sorry Cookie passed away. She was a beautiful bird. I know your heart is broken. I always cry, and mourn the loss of an animal. I know she was like a member of the family having her for so many years.

"Pretty Bird" is a good read; kind of sums up life, I guess. It was Cookie's lucky day when you took him off the principal's hands. You will think about him every time you walk down the garden path.

Darling Cookie, a whole lifetime of love and loving, fun and laughter, whistling together, you will miss him so, but were there for all his hours at the end. I know his place will be one you'll visit often, and you'll whistle and talk to him there.Thank you so very, very much for sharing with us, your Cookie. Hugs.XXX Jean.

Kathleen, I'm so sorry for your loss. You had him for a long time and you'll miss him a lot. I claim I'll not get another dog when Beau's gone, but he'll leave such a hole in my life I can't imagine anything would help except another little dog who needs a home. Loveing is hard, yet so wonderful. I'm thankful for compassionate people like you.
