A farewell.....................

out in my garden, where wild Prairie Asters bloom, there is an old gingerbread archway with a rock path

that leads to a tired and weathered scarecrow, who is not only guarding the garden,

but a space that has a large container of pretty rose moss.............

the resting place for my cat..........

Salem
Isn't it strange that 8 years seems to be such a long time................until someone you loved for 8 years gets taken away?
And you realize that you didn't have enough time?

Salem was in every area of my life...........
outside where ever I was..........making me smile.............

inside when I was busy at work..........letting me know
he was there

always exploring the wild world of the grounds with Sophie

and always letting his presence be known in is comical way............
I didn't know that Death was hanging around.......waiting for Salem to walk off with him.......
and I tried to persuade Salem to hang in there and  to stay with me instead...........

but he closed his eyes...............
and sighed with his last breath..............
rest in peace sweet Salem.

So sad that our wonderful animal friends' life spans can be so short. It's a unique and special relationship and a loss that we feel so deeply. It's like losing a family member. Our bird Baxter (almost 24 years old) went to bird heaven 2 weeks ago & our 15 yr old cat Peanut, that never goes anywhere, disappeared on Monday. We spotted a bob cat a couple days ago so,we are thinking the worst. I'm feelin' your pain. I know you miss your faithful companion, your words are a wonderful tribute to Salem.

Oh Kathleen, I feel your sadness. Four years ago I lost my cat to death by dogs. And just this week my sweet kitten that I had shown in a picture on my last post, has disappeared. There's always that "looking for" and "hoping he'll come home" feeling but realizing it will never be. Salem has a beautiful resting place.

I'm shedding tears for you, Kathleen, and Salem. He was obviously a very well loved kitty.

Our thoughts are with you during your grieving. The pain of losing our animals is just as palpable as losing anyone in your family.

Big hugs to you,

1st and 2nd

I am so sorry for your loss! My 3 cats are all seven years old and one is really showing a lot of signs of aging. It makes me sad. Again, my heart goes out to you as you mourn

I am so sorry you lost your cat Salem, Kathleen! I didn't realize it was so recent when I saw the picture on your other blog. We lost a cat we adored once and it just about killed my husband, who one time burst into tears in the cat food aisle of the grocery store. We felt so guilty because she had fleas and we were working night and day back then and didn't realize they had gotten so bad. By the time we took her to the vet, she needed a transfusion and did everything they could to save her, but it was too late. Her name was Cricket. I know you will miss Salem a lot, but I also know your good memories of him will help you heal. Again, I am so sorry.

It's so hard to loose a pet isn't it Kathleen? A beautiful tribute to your beautiful boy.

Oh, Kathleen, I am so sorry. It just hurts when someone (yes, even a cat) who has shared such a large part of our life leaves it. There is a hole there that can never be completely filled. But we know time will lessen the pain and we will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get back to life. Praying comfort for you, dear friend.

Salem was a handsome cat; good that you have so many wonderful photos of him. I fall to pieces just thinking about losing my pets.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hate the feeling that something just isn't right when they aren't there.

I am so sorry to read of your beautiful kittle's passing.
I am sure that there is a special place that we as humans will be reunited with the animals we loved and shared our lives with...

I meant to tell you how sweet Salem's resting place is. A lovely place for memories. I also meant to thank you for coming by my quilting blog and commenting on the baby quilt. I don't post there often but when I do it's nice to know a few people looked at what I have been working on, and made a kind comment.
