An electric fence has now been added to the outside area

of the chicken yard.
Hopefully, this will keep my chickens safe from future coyote attacks.

They coyotes are appearing every day. This very young and very starved coyote was following behind Sophie and I, because it picked up the scent of the scraps that I had carried out to place at the far end of the woods, to keep the coons and the coyotes away from the house.. I often feed the scraps to the chickens, but if I leave too much and the chickens don't eat it, the scraps draw the wild animals into their yard.

I was able to get pretty close to this young coyote for this photo. It was so naive and starved to be very afraid of Sophie and I. It did keep a good distance from me.

The dry brown ground has started to awaken from it's winter slumber

and the daffodils are starting to blossom in their vibrant yellow.

Such a pretty sight at the base of this ancient mesquite tree.

I hope they multiply and bloom each season  as the years pass by.

The warm weather has brought out the wasp and they explore the rose bushes for a drop of water.

In spite of the pretty blossoms, I am brought back to the reality of how dry it is by the hard blowing wind today. It blows the dirt and the tumbleweeds across the bare cotton field onto the share croppers house.

I brought home an armful of English Daisies from a local nursery........
with one thing in mind..........

to capture their beauty with my needle and thread.
You can read more about this on my embroidery blog
How about you?
Has the weather warmed and awakened your grounds and blossoming flowers?
Are you still under a blanket of snow?

I am sure the coyotes tug at your heart strings just as they do mine. Hopefully, the electric fence will keep them away from the chickens. I try to leave something for the wild critters every day. They are just trying to make a living, or so my dad used to say.

I hope the electric fence will keep your hens safe. We don't see many coyotes that close, but hear them around dusk, making the dogs howl along with them.

Only a few daffodils have made their appearance here. The wind is very cold this morning.

By the way, I am in need of a good picture of a coyote for a book I have written. :)

yes we are, Kathleen, we have a new big blanket coming down now. Michigan will beat their most snow record today. My family in the country are feeding the deer, snow is so deep. I feel bad for any animal to starve, even a coyote but can't risk those beautiful chickens. It was so good to see a daffodil.

Hi, I love how you are seeing spring flowers popping up around your yard. Here in Colorado, we don't have any snow left and it's sunny out but still cool. We won't be getting any flowers until after Mother's Day; thank you for sharing yours with us. Hope the Coyotes stay away!
Have a great week.

Wow, great pictures, Kathleen. I think I'd be afraid of coyotes coming so close. I hope the fence will keep your chickens safe. Your embroidery is so beautiful! You have such a wonderful talent with that.

You've done a beautiful job on the English daisies, Kathleen, and I would NOT like to see a coyote near my chickens!

We got what I hope is our last snow last night. I hope. Those coyotes coming so close has me worried about you and Sophie. Glad you got the fence, but please be careful.
Your embroidery is so fine Kathleen. I'm working on something that looks like a first grader project compared to yours. Hows the shop going?

We have coyotes around here, but haven't lost any chickens to them yet, hawks though. Knowing me I would end up feeding them.
We had tons more snow again, I'm so anxious to see flowers poking through the ground!

I hope the electric fence works!! That's crazy you got such a close-up picture of a coyote... I always heard that if you see them in the daylight, something is wrong!

When we lived on ranchland in TX, the coyotes howled almost every night, and sometimes we would see them in the fields. You got great photos of this one. I know it needs to leave your chicken coop alone, though! I see spring arriving for you, and I am glad! Hopefully you will also soon get some healing rain.
