This is the time of year that the tarantulas are on the crawl

and usually I just see them going along, by themselves, to where ever tarantulas go.
But this morning, I saw one tarantula in a hole, waving it's legs at another tarantula on the ground outside of the hole
Within seconds, the tarantula comes out of the hole

and they both have a stand off. I thought at first, it must be two males about to fight.........

But I am now thinking that it might be a male and a female. I think she was waving at him to come on over............what do you think???
Each one did not seem to notice how close I was to capture their photos.

Sometimes..........nature surprises me. While some creatures dart away just as fast as they can..........
some seem to be interested in me as much as I am interested in them. While my husband and I were moving some large stones, this little lizard hopped up on a rock in front of me. Looking at me and staying long enough for me to get a good photo.

These two lizard are always darting back and forth while I water my gardens along the patio. They never slow down long enough for me to take their photo..............
except for the other day.

They both stopped and looked right at me as I loomed closer with my lens/

They seem to be posing, don't you think?
How about you?
Are there any friendly creatures along in your gardens?
I would love to hear!

BOY, you are brave to get that close to those big spiders. HECK, I would not even get that close to smaller ones. I think you caught them in a private moment. Looks like your yard is a haven for hankiness.

I've had tarantulas before, tho not any the last few years. I do have quite a few horned toads! The grandsons are always finding some here on the farm. AND, for the first time ever, I had a rattlesnake on my farm a couple of weeks ago! Now I have to wear hip boots!

Blessings!

Merciful heaven! I love seeing your critters because it's like visiting another planet-but-I'm shivering just at a picture of those spiders. I have to say though, I'd love to see them in person! I like the little lizards too. Thank you for this peek into your world.

Love the critter pics. I am fascinated by the tarantulas. The ones around here go "wandering" in mid to late August. My guess is for mating. It's not unusual to see them crossing the road. I always see them when I don't have my camera! I'm working on a bug post.....we have some creepy bugs around the cabin!

Wow, Kathleen, I love to see what you've discovered there on your land. It is so interesting to me and you are really getting good photos! For sure, Texas is a BIG state. I don't see any of those creatures you've posted today. (Not at all sorry to miss out on the tarantulas though.) :)!!

We usually don't see tarantulas until fall. Just the other day, while watering a potted ivy, I saw something wiggle, and out ran a lizard. They're fun to have. I used to have lots of toads but have only seen one this summer. They've taken on a whole new meaning to me since reading "The Wind in the Willows."

Loved that the wildlife posed for you today!! My hubby would have ran off and left me if he saw those spiders! lol Great pictures.. We have a tale less salamander that stays around our porch. I don't know why, since the cats got his tale...

Nice to know that you will have a fresh crop of baby tarantulas coming on ;-) I have two smaller lizards, so pretty striped in blue, that follow me around when I water. They do seem to want to be around me.

Luckily for me, Indiana only has pretty harmless wildlife like hummingbirds, groundhogs and occasionally, a garter snake. I wouldn't do too well with huge spiders!

You are very brave! I lived one year in Texas, and my greatest fear was running into a tarantula. (never did see one...I think I purposely never looked at the ground!)

OK Kathleen, I have to admit when I saw the tarantulas, I backed as far away from my computer screen as possible! I did come closer though for the lizards. It looks like the spiders were enjoying some afternoon delight!

Hi Kathleen,
Love the lizards. We have blue-tailed ones here that have to hide from the birds or they get eaten. Those tarantulas give me butterflies. O.O

And now I can see why I would not like to live onTexas, Kathleen, just visit one day. You did get nice shots, but these models would not be ones for me.

We have loads of lizards in the yard and they are all very frightened of me when I am out watering. :-) I enjoy seeing them. Would love to see a spade-foot toad. We watched the Sonoran desert episode of North America and learned about their tenuous hold on life, depending on the amount of monsoon rains. Now, tarantulas would scare the bejeebers out of me! But I love that you captured a "Wild Kingdom" moment with those two! :-)
