Among the large green leaves and vibrant yellow blossoms,

small  yellow balls...............baby pumpkins........are developing.

These large leaves and colorful blossoms are what made me fall in love with growing pumpkins a few years ago. The whole garden space is beautiful with these vines sprawled out and all over.

And then comes the excitement of seeing the small balls and longing for fall time to see that they have all grown into large pumpkins.

I love the twirling and curling that goes along with it.

The pomegranates are getting larger as well. I am so glad that I purchased this tree last year.
It has bloomed beautifully and is now developing beautiful fruit.

To add a little whimsy.............along with some frustration to the garden, are these creatures.
They are chomping on my flowers and plants and are causing much devastation.
Yet, I still think they are amazing to look at.

As most of you know, I love and am intrigued by the insect world. It is a world full of color and design. I think this creature would be perfect for a design in the next book I am writing.............

I think it would look lovely on one of the leaves in my embroidery..............
what do you think?
How about you?
What garden goodness is springing up around you?

Beautiful stitchery and the little insect would be lovely. He is almost transparent, Great photos of the growing pumpkins, we let them roam over the lawn at the far end of the garden, this year the purchased plants failed, and the best ones grew all by themselves.Cheers from Jean

I hope you will continue to update us on your garden, SO CUTE those little pumpkins.

As for the bugs.... hate to say it this way but get rid of them anyway you can. Seems even the birds dont want to eat them anymore so you have to get them under control.
ME, I hate the dreaded tomato hornworm... Ate some of my prize tomatoes one year before I finally saw what was eating them.

If I had a farm I would have lots of pumpkins. This year in my little yard I have Little October, Mini-Jack and Baby Boo, and I have forgotten which is which as usual. I love seeing your pictures.

Not much garden goodness here this year ~ we've had only a small amount of rain since March. Those pesky little critters are destroying a lot of vegetation here too. I think they like dry weather best.

If you put one on your work, he'll look grand!

The pumpkin vines and blossoms are just lovely. It's nice to think of fall, of cooler days and of orange pumpkins. Anything you decide to add to your embroidery will be wonderful...even grasshoppers!

I wish I had the room to grow pumpkins and some of the other large space crops, but we just don't. Our tomatoes are doing well, if we beat the worms and the stinkbugs. ;)

I think what ever you put in your embroideries will look wonderful. Even bugs.

I love watching gardens grow. It's so much fun to watch those little balls grow and grow. It has been so dry and hot here that not much at all is growing right now. we really need some rain. Great pictures, Kathleen!

Garden goodness is springing up now that the temps are rising above the 50's & 60's.The grasshopper really is an amazing insect...destructive too. When I lived in Louisiana I discovered quite a few people there ate grasshoppers, and if they're all as big and populous as the ones you showed, I think they could feed a lot of people quite well.

The twirling and twining of vines is so beautiful.

Isn't it amazing what grows from such a tiny little seed? All my plants this year are in pots. The ground is to bad here to grow anything except Marigolds. I even bought 2 watermelon plants for Billy and planted them in a pot. They are doing good and about ready to start crawling. Our LL has corn and pumpkins planted and he shares with us and that is good. We filled the freezer last summer with corn and hope to do it again. Love the stitchery as always

I don't have any pumpkin plants but my watermelon plants are blooming. This is my first year to try growing watermelons.
Beautiful embroidered rose. I love seeing your finished products. By the way, thank you for the giving us this pattern. It is lovely.

Hi Kathleen, what a coincidence! Pop over to my blog today and see what I said about you! I have a pumpkin question! I knew you were the pumpkin expert - I have pumpkins in my garden that grew from last year's seeds in the compost. They are the white ghost pumpkins. Some of them are already pretty big. What do I do? Will they last til fall? I've already got some soccer ball sized ones? Help - they are taking over the garden! At least I've already got most of the garden. If they're going to rot before fall gets here I want to go ahead and get rid of them... I do wish mine were orange - how 'bout I send you some white pumpkin seeds for some of your orange ones? :) Love your pretty colored grasshoppers!

I have another question for you - what are those little stink-bug looking bugs on the pumpkin vines and how do I get rid of them? Since we are not eating these pumpkins, I've been sprinkling sevin dust on them... squash bugs?
