I thought about my grandparents, yesterday,

as I unrolled the wall paper that had just arrived,
and placed it inside of my grandfather's trunk. I thought back to their old weathered house, sitting in the middle of mesquite covered grounds, surrounded by cotton fields....................

almost the same way I live today................
I thought about my dear aunts and uncles..............some who have gone on................
some who are still here, who have told me that they remember this trunk during their childhood years.

This is the way it looked, before I papered it............and yes, I felt a little sad covering up the old tattered paper...............but it was really worn and tired.

and it seemed to say it needed something like this!....................Grandpa would have probably disagreed, but I think Grandma would not have.

An now, it sits, waiting to be filled with embroidered linens and small treasures. A trunk that was once my grandfather's..............that maybe one day in the far off distance...........might be "Grandmother's "
trunk to my "someday" grandchildren.
I just feel delighted to have it here........... sitting among family and friends...........like a long lost relative come back to visit.

You did good and it looks awesome. I have a trunk here that was my Grandmothers and can you believe no body could understand why I wanted this old ugly thing. To me it is beautiful and I wish I could have been there when they started throwing all my Grandmothers JUNK in the trash. So sad. Maybe some day I will do like you did but for right now it is full of some of my treasures :)

That turned out beautifully, Kathleen! You'll be able to use it so much longer and be able to put more precious things into that clean lining. Looks great!

The trunk is perfect, I do not see you taking away from its olden days patina at all. The paper goes so well with it.

Your trunk reminds me of my grandparents too. They own big, black iron trunks - a remnant of their army life used during 'postings' across the length and breadth of India. Liked your choice of wallpaper!

I love your choice of wallpaper! And, even if Grandpa might not approve of the floral design, he'd surely applaud all of your hard work and the love you've put into his old trunk! And, wouldn't he just love to see his beloved chest filled with your beautiful embroidery pieces? Great job! ♥
