"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands........" 1 Thessalonians 4:11

It's been a little over a year

since I walked away and quit my job as head cook only cook at a country cafe in a little town which is barely a dot on the state road map. Burned from wrist to elbow, burned out emotionally and physically,  and tired of being taken for granted, I vowed that I would no longer accept these conditions just to make a few dollars.
I decided to finally tackle my dream of writing and publishing my book of embroidery designs and patterns and I set to work, stitching and writing up into the late hours where only the howling wind outside was my company.

The more projects I designed and completed...........

the more designs would pop into my mind.  I had made a goal to finish and publish by mid to late spring. Here I am, a few projects and weeks away to reaching that goal.
HOWEVER................there is always a "however" it seems................. and I am putting my rose colored glasses aside................
after being alerted by blogging friends and doing some extensive research on the Internet, I found out that the publishing company I had chose to work with is not as reputable as they claim to be. Too many red flags with so many complaints about this company has made me disappointed and in search of another publishing house.  The publishing world is not so easy to slip into........it's very challenging and hard to get accepted into. I'm not giving up. I am going to finish my book..........
and keep positive...............and turn every stone I can to see it to it's success.
How about you?
Ever have big dreams or plans and have them crushed?
Did you overcome the obstacles?
I would love to hear.

Aw, Kathleen, I hate to hear this. But you are SO talented, I know that you'll find another publisher. And yes, that happened to me, too. I had been offered an opportunity to be a part of an online art gallery. I made a little money, but soon found out that the whole thing was a pyramid scheme. I lost one painting and had the dickens of a time getting the rest of the unsold prints back. I had to buy them back, as I didn't want anyone else profiting from MY paintings, especially if this company was bogus and going belly-up.

So, I'm GLAD that you found this out NOW. You can't be too careful, but you hang onto this dream, Kathleen. I know you'll get it published!!!

Love the rooster!

Have you considered self-publishing? My little book was self-published; of course I wasn't trying for a big market but did sell a few locally. My daughter has tried for quite some time to be published and rejections come all too often. I know you'll have a wonderful book when you're finished.

It is so refreshing to know other women, who have discarded the thankless job/work force to pursue dreams and other aspirations, such as the simplier self sufficent lifestyle. I was let go of a VP position (covered 7 states, never home, high salary) because of the economy. Took me over a year to get over feeling worthless, and as of today i know it was thebest thing to ever happen to me. I closer to my husband than ever before, I am closer to my lord and savior, i have time to sew, garden, cook, and keep a nice house. In one word I can say I can say I am content. You are in my prayers in getting a upstanding publisher.

Kathleen,
today finding anyone honest in business is a hard task within itself! It seems the "almighty dollar" is what rules some companies and research is the key that unlocks the door of their nature. Don't give up, just find a way to do it...just don't stop doing what you do...

Your work is beautiful....write on.....I have written a book for my son, and thought it would be fun to publish it..One particular place (after 3 other failed attempts) accepted. It was fun, and then the reality of the red flag went off...pay for illustrations...pay for complimentary copies...and when all said and done...they would make more off my book then I...so I shelved it for now....I will live on to pursue another day...but keep on your dream..your work is lovely, and the right company for you will be willing to pay for your hard work. Don't be glum my chum...keep on.Thank you for stopping by my place...I enjoyed your visit.

I'm so proud of you, it takes a lot of personal strength to walk away and follow your dream. You have just had a little detour in the road but the end result is still there. Good that you found out about this company before and not after you were published.

I am so proud of you! I can't wait to see your completed design book! My goals are to complete a book I am writing, to make dozens of quilts and wonderful needlework items, to oil paint again. I always worked after our daughter was about 10 (stayed home with her till then) and sometimes my job would require more than 15 hours a day from me, plus driving our daughter here and there....I feel like I should have devoted more time over the years to things I have wanted to pursue, but now I hope I can....
