Empty Nests

God speaks to me in the stir of a leaf,
In the glorious song of a bird;
And my pew is a log or a mountain crag-
Wherever His voice is heard.
G.C. Constable

The nests on the grounds are getting empty and almost everywhere I look, there is a little bird clinging to a wall or a branch, trying to learn to fly.............with it's parents close by it's side. Right now, this strikes a cord in my heart..........my last little bird is now officially a senior and it won't be long after next spring that I will have an empty nest and be just like those hoovering bird parents...........encouraging him to fly.............yet so worried when he actually flies away.

How about you? Has your nest gone empty..............or are you anxious as I and all of the bird parents around me about your young one getting his wings? I would love to hear!

Oh Kathleen. What memories your blog brings back. I went to lunch from joy job one day, really to be alone. I sat in a crowded restaurant alone, watching a mother and her two little fellows. I watched, ate and choked back my tears. As I left I walked over to her and said, "My baby is getting married next week. Please keep your little ones as close as you can, for they leave all too soon." We didn't exchange any words (that I remember at least). I didn't realize I was such a mess until I look back on that day.
Make these next few months memorable ones for your fledgling. Once they are gone, it is never the same - though our loves only grows stronger. Blessings

My younger son is 16 and learning to drive so he hasn't flown away yet, but in just a few short years he'll be ready. I'm in no hurry for that day to get here. Happy weekend to you, Kathleen!

We raise them to have wings
so why are we so surprised when they fly?
most of mine have flown away (as far as Afghanistan and Ecuador) then came back (o:
now I have the four Granddaughters close by...that is a sweet reward.

I get goofy sad when I think about my children flying the nest one day. That said, I look around at other parents with teens and see the tension building. In some ways I think God gives us adolescence so that we'll be ready for the empty nest.

I love this, just yesterday I was at my daughter's and there was a nest of babies I could see. Later on, it was empty and the mother bird was screeching at me. I found one of them clinging onto a limb. The nest may be empty but the heart never is. Good wishes to all.

Our next emptied officially in May, when the youngest graduated from college and started working in another city. But we were blessed with our first grandchild in March, so things are beginning to "fill" again.

You write so beautifully--so lyrically. Yes, my nest is empty now, but grandchildren now claim my time. Daughter is expecting a daughter soon, so there will be another to spend time with. Lovely post.

Hi Kathleen -

Two of my chicks have flown the nest, but I still have one little chick that's not quite ready. She's finishing up her schooling. But she is excited and can hardly wait to fly! I'm dreading that day and looking forward to it all at the same time!

Love the picture with the nest. May I save it for possible painting at a later time?

I LOVE this post. Our 2 baby robins fledged this last weekend. Made me a little sad....my nest is only 1/2 full these days and I know it will be strange when our last 2 chicks fledge.

Blessings!

We keep the nest fluffed and ready for more chicks, birds and grand babies! We have one coming any day now! A first for our son!
And...our little red hen has a nest full of eggs in the barn....in a corner. I keep an eye on her and try not to poke around too much.

Having a bit of space is good and then when they move back and bring babies with them life is really nice.

I never had children - but often feels like an empty nest when the children of dear friends go off on their own.

My nest got compleely empty a few years ago. Now.... my young are having THEIR nests become empty. Not a fun time for them, but I try to lend a listening ear when they call, all the while remembering just how it was not so long ago....

Best thing to do is to remember that as much as we love them, God loves them even more, and longs to bless them and carry them on to the path He has for them, filled with blessings for their young lives. God is faithful!

My Mother had a saying that went like this
There are 2 lasting gifts you can give to your Children...One is Roots..and the other is Wings.
I have done that 9 times and trust me they will come around often since they can always fly home :)

3 down 2 to go. I'm sure I will miss them but look forward to a bit of freedom and being a part of their lives in different ways...meeting new and falling in love with in law children. Spending time with my husband...more grandbabies, I think I will be to busy to be lonely for too long.
