Awaking

Although from a distance, the woods look still, barren,...........dead.
But by walking into it's quiet thickness and carefully looking.........one can see colors..........

of life waking up from Winter's deep sleep.

Maybe it's just the "Texan " in me.........but I love this stickery, prickery, life that surrounds me.
There is beauty...........everywhere..............one just has to look.
How about you? What is one thing in your surroundings........that strikes you as beautiful?
I would love to hear!

Hi Kathleen - I've been watching, too, and seeing little greens come out - & flowers, too, the quince, the tulip trees, and the pear trees. 'Round here, the wild pears come out first. I love watching the tulips, too. And yes, even the mesquite in your is beautiful, too! I just love everything - I'm so glad it's spring - rebirth, awakening, fresh new start - reminds me of the fresh new start we are blessed with in Christ!

I think the Earth, itself, is beautiful! My greatest spring pleasure is that first shovel full of dirt turned. I like the way it feels in my hand and the smell is wonderul! It is especially intoxicating after a long and frozen winter.

The bare ground with no snow on it and the 60's looks and feels great to me. Even the rain is ok when it isn't freezing!

This is like cheating....
but all I have to do is walk outside and see the Rocky Mountains. A twenty minute drive puts me in them. They are snow covered right now (o:
I have some tulips popping up in my messy flower bed.

Have a lovely weekend ~

It's been too cold here to even go out for a walk yet, we are still getting snow and cold and wind! But I am trying to be positive about it and I can hardly wait to get going. For now, I watch the storms move in and out of the red rock hills by my home and it is beautiful! :D

Looked like a Russian Olive branch. I love the waking of the earth too.

Somehow it wakes me along with it.

Things are waking up here as well. I've been enjoying the birds. Saw a pair of purple finch today, it was so sweet, he was feeding her. Love is in the air!! You asked about the sundial, here is a website that talks about its design. Very intersting.http://www.iodesign.net/tag/biltmore-estate/

Hi Kathleen, I have been working for the last few nights and haven't seen anything on my way to work. I will go out in the morning and look for the crocus. We have been having days in the 50's. Very unusual for us here in Maine. I love the contrast of the tiny yellow flowers and the prickly plant. Very beautiful.

The incredible intricacies of creation. In other words, everything. That is what I find beautiful.

Your pictures are beautiful and I can see why you like your prickly world.

Hello Kathleen,

I'm thinking how neat it is that we both posted on the same day about things we love about where we live.

Thanks for coming over for a visit...and I, too would love to make it to the Houston Quilt show one year...just reading about it and looking at photos leaves me weak in the knees. :0)

I can't remember if I've told you that I've lived in several places in Texas over the years of traveling...first was a relatively short stay [4-5 months] in San Antonio, then several years later I was in Roanoake which is about 25 miles outside of Ft. Worth [very close to the big IBM setup in the late 80's], then the last place [the early 90's] was in Bedford, Texas...this was suburbia hugged up against Ft. Worth and Arlington..I worked in Arlington.

Texas was a great place to live...I'll never forget the first Jack Rabbit I saw...omg, I was flipping out..LOL

We live in such a beautiful diverse country! I have enjoyed seeing all of the differences and have found beauty in all of it.

We were just saying today that we hope with this warm spell of weather that nothing buds yet because we will surely have a few more very cold spells before Spring arrives. I hate seeing the young tender foliage after it's been frozen and gone limp. :0(

Have a great day, Kathleen

Hugs,
Stephanie

I have noticed that so often God places us in the very best place for us, for Him. I love the wet, gray, cool Pacific Northwest and yearn for it when I am away for more than a few days....you have a special love for the home and land in which God has placed you. Can there be many more special blessing that to KNOW and be thankful for where He has placed you? You show that here in your photos and thoughts about your home.

It's definitely time for things to wake up. They've been sleeping long enough! I enjoyed seeing your pictures of life returning, Kathleen. :D Hurray for spring!

Hi, Miss Kathleen!
I love watching the peach trees beautiful new pink blossoms pop out... and the flowering pear trees that look like and explosion of snow!
And the fields of "wild" daffodils... and I love your drive into town. I love seeing cows in fields! Is that strange? Hmmm...
Many Blessings,

I'm still hoping for one more good spring snow storm before all the green shoots up. For now everything is dreary, brown and wet. It is starting to smell like spring out and that is nice.

Hi Kathleen, our daffodils are out and blooming and our grass has greened up so fast! There are swelled buds on our fruit trees and things are exploding fast. Love the 1st photo on your post. It is soooo pretty! Enjoy the earth waking up around you!

I love how you found new life peeking it's head up amid all the brown of winter. I've been noticing it here too.

This winter has been so cold for so long ( for W. TX anyway) that I saw a most beautiful site a couple of weeks ago-Buzzards! Now just waiting on the mesquites to green up and then I can start complaining about 100* weather ;). Yesterday was beautiful, I guess the wind blew in spring.
