My Gardening Season Is Beginning

The weather has turned much warmer,
with the early mornings, covering the grounds in a blanket of fog.......and by noon, the sun is shining..........and warm.
Nelly, the tiller, got a good going over, and now I am able to get out and break up the garden spaces. Out in one of the gardens, the onions from last fall, have already poked their heads up through the cold ground. The Italian Jasmine and Stock flower are budding and starting to show their blossoms. I will be digging up the young plants from these and transferring them to other spaces and potting some to sell at the market this summer. My gardening season is beginning. I have much to do! I am so ready! How about you? Have your grounds thawed out and are you beginning your garden work? Or are you still underneath a blanket of snow? I would love to hear!

BEWARE!.....
see this latch?? Opening this latch is like lifting the lid on Pandora's box! To find out what I mean.......go to my cooking blog, My Country Kitchen and see!

Me, too, Kathleen! My husband and I were at the farm over the weekend working in our garden. It got tilled up a few weeks ago, but will do it again before we plant. I'm needing to get my onions in quick - I've never done them in the fall. Does that make them get bigger? I didn't get mine in soon enough last year, and they didn't get very big before the tops fell over. I'm talking March, which is way too late.

With the 60's temps this week, I am planning on putting them out. The paperwhites are coming up and I think I see some daffodils trying to come up, too. What all are you planting this year? I bet you're having fun with your greenhouse and have all your seedlings ready to go!

I would love to be able to come to your place to dig in the dirt... We are still under several inches of snow, won't be able to plant here (rule of thumb) until after Memorial day.

Do love gardening though, and can barely wait!

Oh my! In January! We don't even think about gardening here until May! HA! And yes, we are still under a blanket of snow. Best of luck to you with your gardening projects, Kathleen. I'll look forward to hearing more about them. :)

How lovely, though it seems so early! We have 8-12 inches of snow on the ground. We've had freezing fog for a couple days now. It is in the 30's daytime but cloudy and dark. I've been busy in the house.
We could get snows as late as April. I hope we have an early Spring:)

I enjoyed seeing that you had been on my quilting blog, and I came by to visit....what an absolute delight! All of your posts are just wonderful! I savored them all like a hot fresh dinner roll! You and I have so much in common! I love old books, and growing my own food, and herbs. I love chickens, and cats and dogs, and though I've never had a bird I did relate to your wonderful story of your bird, because I have other pets who have meant so much to me over the years. I do not have my own place right now, or I would be out there digging up the ground!!!! I can't wait! And of course, I love to quilt and also do embroidery (something I am getting back into)...well, I could go on and on! Your header photo is wonderful! I will visit again and again....

Best wishes with all your gardening projects Kathleen. We've had a slight taste of Spring and I am so anxious for warmer days to play in the dirt! Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week!

WE dare not begin too much gardening now, for sure as shootin' if we plant the frost and snow will come, so we don't jinx it by even starting. The weather here has been unseasonably warm though. The honeybees are out and about looking for flowers and nectar so we have to feed them sugar water to hold them over. Yup, a frost will be coming again soon.

Your garden looks to be off to a good start.

I feel like my gardening season never had a rest, I guess it did while I was on bedrest, that is also when we had our freeze. We have had relatively mild weather since. Lots of rain at times but not as much as we usually do. Because I do raised beds, if its not frozen I can usually garden because the beds stay well drained. Plus now is the month that I start a lot of things in the propagation room. But I love it, I love that I can always stay busy, and not just busy, but hard working physically exhausting busy.
